I've seen from some English screenshots on the web that the iOS DQ1 still has Ye Olde Butchered English, but I do hope the translation has been somewhat modernized.

I would advise saving all stat and experience-increasing items for the absolute final boss fight of the main storyline (when you can access the menus), since Alicia's level goes down then and can't be increased by other means.

Shining Force is definitely one of my more favorite strategy RPG series, despite the potential for unbalanced leveling.

As for what I'm working on, I'm in the last dungeon of The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky First Chapter Steam, just starting the fan translation of Valkyria Chronicles 3 (I thought the first game was somewhat flawed but liked the sequel much better), which is just as good as the second game thus far, and I'm working on Wild Arms 5, in the dungeon after the television studio and its puzzles, close to the dungeon's (hillariously-named) Sol Niger.

Personally, I feel all the original .hack games could have been one title, and I didn't like how the game merely tells players what happens outside the gaming world rather than showing what happens.

Personally, I prefer FF13's story to the gameplay, and fail utterly to comprehend criticisms of its narrative.

I found the sailing and forced repetition of dungeon/puzzle-solving in Phantom Hourglass to be uncompelling, personally.

Final Fantasy just isn't a gold standard of RPGs anymore.

Saga Frontier 2 was definitely aural and visual porn, but the gameplay could have certainly been better, and I hated the points of no return towards the end. I got stuck having to fight the final boss with only about one life point per character, having expended them all during fights against previous bosses in the final dungeon. I did manage to beat the game twice in two different playthroughs despite having made that particular mistake.

Lucked out and beat Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon this evening. Not a fan, though as I've said before I may look into Awakening since it makes permadeath optional.

Also playing The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and am in the final chapter during the tournament, and working on Wild Arms 5, where I'm towards the end of the Wayward Path, having defeated the second set of bosses after a bit of grinding due to the fact that they were OHKO'ing my characters.

Beat Suikoden Tactics and was generally satisfied in spite of spending about four hours in the last battles with no saving in between.

Still working on The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and have

Code:
rescued the airship hostages.

Will soon start Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, now armed with the strategy guide.

Started The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky FC, and it's pretty decent thus far, completed the first mission and have to go to the tower.

Still working on Suikoden Tactics, and took me a few tries to beat the battle where Simeon is stranded and has to be kept alive. Don't really like missions such as that but I'm still enjoying the game.

FINALLY beat Bravely Default.  Had to fight the final boss three or four times, because my higher-risk quick-kill strategy (two Ninjas, one Thief, one Performer, Hasten World) was getting annihilated by the final form.  Eventually decided **** it and went for 3 dual-shield Knights with Blood Shields and Super Charge backed by a Spiritmaster.  Ultimate defense.  Man, that was a fun game once you get through the, uh, more repetitive parts.

Definitely agreed on the repetition towards the end. I myself adopted a strategy against the last few bosses to lower their Magic Attack with the Pirate's special skills since it was mostly magic that got me in the tougher boss fights.

I myself am currently playing Suikoden Tactics (making this my second time). Definitely a good entry level strategy RPG with plenty of anti-frustration features such as the bubbles that appear above enemies indicating if they can move and attack you based on where you want to move one of your characters, and if you can kill an enemy with one blow. I'm actually not bothered by the potential of permadeath by non-story characters since, if you die, you can restart with retained experience, consumed items restored, and permadead characters revived.

Trails in the Sky FC via Steam will likely be my next game, and I'm thinking of going through Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon again with the official player's guide since I was definitely more in need of visual aid in the tougher battles rather than verbal aid, the latter not really helping me during my initial playthrough. Whether I enjoy the game or dislike it as I did before, I'll still likely play the 3DS Fire Emblem since it makes permadeath optional.

When he delivers his classic line at the end of the movie, it's pretty badass.

Ah, yes, the first cinematic burn ^^

I finished rereading Dan Brown's Robert Langdon thrillers. Kind of hard to place Brown's view on religion, since The Da Vinci Code and The Lost Symbol are somewhat polar opposites in terms of theme. I'd rate the books Angels & Demons>Inferno>The Lost Symbol>The Da Vinci Code.

Also read the first two Outlander books and am hooked. I plan on rereading the Sword of Truth books as well now that a new one has recently come out.

Finished the Dead Red Mystery series by R.P. Dahlke about an ag pilot who solves mysteries, and they were decent reads.

I also have the Outlander / Lord John books by Diana Gabaldon and the Robert Langdon books by Dan Brown which I'll read (in the latter case reread).

Beat FF4: The After Years iOS this morning. Don't regret my purchase.
