I'm at the kindle point in the Undead Burg in Dark Souls. Is it really fucking necessary for the game to say YOU DIED when you do so? Durr.

On Act II in Diablo III, having a good time.

Been grinding for tens of hours in The Legend of Legacy since the boss of the swamps rapes me.

I'm in Chapter 3 in The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel. Love how all battle animations are skippable.

I remember Rocky and Bullwinkle and Ren and Stimpy Gameboy games essentially being the same level-wise save for the different characters.

Finished Sherlock Hound and the Frieza plot arc of Dragon Ball Z, and am breaking from DBZ again to watch the first series of Around the World with Willy Fog.

I read all the Shannara books up to the original trilogy and the stories occurring shortly after it (before the Heritage of Shannara subseries), and right now I'm dividing my time between The Sword of Truth since its supposed absolute final book came out late last year, and Morgan Rice's The Sorcerer's Ring series, which is a great entry-level fantasy series. I can definitely understand why many don't like Sword of Truth, since it can be slow at times, especially with regards to the first few books, and Goodkind's editors glossed over countless punctuation errors.

I'm not sure anymore if books are better than movies, since I've gotten into a bit of a funk where my memory is fuzzy even after spending a lot of time reading books (to the point where I've had to take notes on my iPad so I can actually write a detailed review). I do still get somewhat annoyed when film adaptations don't follow the book to a point, for instance in the film version of Return of the Ring where there's a lot more in the book that happens after the visit to Mount Doom. I also don't remember there being a flying house on fire in the book version of The Divergent Series: Insurgent. It's weird.

My summation of 99% of critical opinion on the prequels: lol teh prekwelz suk teh originalz rool jorj looks raypt my chyldhud amirite?

Seriously, the originals aren't that fucking perfect, either, and the entire original trilogy itself could have been resolved if the Imperials just fucking vaporized the escape pod with Threepio and Artoo instead of idiotically thinking it was empty. All the original films are fucking full of plot holes, and there is "bad" dialogue like "Why you stuck-up half-witted scruffy-looking nerf herder." Hell, even Mark Hamill complained that the dialogue was bad during the making of Empire.

I don't care if localization teams change things, since some Japanese dialogue conventions don't translate very well to English, like characters shouting the names of their attacks, and honorifics (which really sound unnatural if spoken by actors who obviously have no idea in hell what they mean). I liked Fire Emblem: Awakening, but there seems no reason, for instance, why anyone would think it natural for a character to say, "Defeat..." before they die.
38  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Mass Effect 3 anyone? on: January 15, 2016, 02:55:35 PM
I'm playing through the Mass Effect trilogy now for the PlayStation 3, and am close to the end of a first game. My old fat PS3 stopped working for me and wouldn't even load the second game, leading me to get a new slim model, and it's been working fine. Been a while since I've played the third game, but I really don't get complaints about the ending.

Finished the Namek and Captain Ginyu Saga story arc of Dragon Ball Z. Akira Toriyama definitely creates some truly epic battles that span many episodes, but I think I'll take a break from the series, given how long it is, and watch some Sherlock Hound.

I liked the original Arc the Lad, but I had a bit of trouble with its sequel since all my normal attacks seemed to miss, even when attacking foes from the side or behind, although the third game seemed to resolve that. Didn't care much for Twilight, particularly its drawn-out endgame (which seems to me one of my common complaints about many JRPGs). Just my two cents...

FFX-2 was definitely one of the funniest RPGs I've ever played, another contender for that title being Arc the Lad III.

I'll definitely spring for the special edition assuming all three games provide a cohesive narrative.

FF9 definitely needed an option to speed up battles, and I'm glad they're including one in the forthcoming ports.

Saw The Force Awakens today, and I was surprised...but not in a wholly positive way. It wasn't a bad movie, but my mom said it best when she said it was like re-watching the original trilogy, and somewhat felt like a "best of the OT" compilation.
