301  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Mass Effect 3 on: October 12, 2011, 03:18:39 PM
So I'm reading this can affect the single player. Admittedly there are alternatives in single player, but it does make me worry how it'll be balanced there: will co-op just be the easy way out, or will it be a pain in the ass WITHOUT resorting to co-op? The latter WILL irritate me, plus this just sounds like some horde-type thing. But then they haven't revealed all the details yet, wasn't it stated there were some co-op scenarios planned?

I also kind of think it'd best best to experiment with this stuff in a whole new series, or at least after the concluding part of the trilogy. I think they're trying to go for what Demon's Souls did with it's online in a vague way, but at this point it's somewhat offputting.

I'm somewhat concerned myself, since I have an older PS3, although I can't use its internet connectivity on account of my home having wireless internet, the older PS3 not using Wi-Fi (at least from what I've seen, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), and my need to have something like an Ethernet connection to use the older PS3's said internet capabilities.

And yeah, I agree that it's best to experiment with significant changes in new series rather than within a series. It infuriates me that Final Fantasy does something drastically different with each installment, and while I've liked some of the changes, I'd rather they just call the games something else instead of lumping them all within the same series and making them sequels in name only.

I'll probably try out the original Demon's Souls, albeit with a grain of salt given what I've heard about its difficulty, and I'm not the kind of gamer who interchanges the words "fun" and "difficult" since playing a game, as far as I'm concerned, should never, ever be a chore.
303  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Valkyria Chronicles 3 not coming to US and Europe, Sega blames you on: October 12, 2011, 11:53:26 AM
It really wouldn't have hurt Sega at all to, you know, actually advertise these games instead of being as quiet as possible about their releases.

Good for you. I'll gladly be avoiding this overrated pile of shit. Shin Megami Tensei? More like Shit Megami Tensei.

I've made it a point to avoid Fire Emblem like the plague given my shitty experience with Shadow Dragon.

That aside, I just finished My Japanese Coach, ordered My Chinese Coach to solidify my knowledge of the Kanji, and am currently playing Okami on the PlayStation 2 (I got the Catwalk ability and am exploring) and Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness (I'm on Episode 1 although this is my fourth cycle, with Mid-Boss having kicked my ass yet again at the end of Episode 6).
306  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Romancing SaGa (PS2) on: October 08, 2011, 11:09:24 PM
I honestly don't see how it's humanely possible to play any of the SaGa games without a guide. I went through all seven quests in SaGa Frontier, but it sure as hell wasn't rewarding to me. Glad Square-Enix's American branch has come to its senses and allowed newer installments to remain in Japan.

The music kicks ass, though, and SaGa Frontier 2 is probably one of the prettiest RPGs I've ever played, but it's a damn shame that artistic and musical talent is wasted on mediocre games.
307  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Hey Guys! We got one! (Solatorobo Thread) on: October 01, 2011, 05:50:34 PM
Glad to hear Solatorobo's apparently a good furry RPG.
308  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky on: October 01, 2011, 05:49:51 PM
blah blah blah

Xenophobe much? I on the other hand would rather take voice acting that's either good or bad that I couldn't understand any day over bad voice acting I could understand, or at least have the option to skip through the voices if they're bad, which I almost always do anyway since I would rather read than listen.

I recently finished Legend of Heroes II on the PSP and am now working on Okami on the PS2 and have made it past lesson 1000 on My Japanese Coach. Awaiting Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness for the PSP.
310  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: RPGs as Therapy on: September 27, 2011, 03:55:27 PM
I've sometimes yelled at RPGs I've played, particularly when I die in what I consider an unfair circumstance, although my parents typically piss and moan when I do so.
311  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Atelier Totorie, Alchemist of Arland 2 announced for the PS3 on: September 26, 2011, 05:25:17 PM
I enjoyed Rorona despite the ability to screw yourself out of beating the game, and Atelier is a series that's mostly been good to me, so I'll probably give Totorie a look in the future.
312  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Next Vanillaware Title to be Grand Knight History on: September 22, 2011, 09:08:48 PM
Definitely looking forward to GKH, hopefully it won't be the slowdown-ridden mess that was Odin Sphere (though I still liked it overall).
313  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Suikoden Topic on: September 19, 2011, 05:51:27 PM
If Tri-Ace got Suikoden, it would probably end up something like Radiata Stories.

I actually think this would be a good thing since RS is one of my favorite RPGs of all time, fuck the haters.
314  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Ys (IV) Celceta, Sea of Trees on: September 14, 2011, 10:33:46 PM
Ys has mostly been good to me, so I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this one.
315  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Final Fantasy X HD confirmed for PSVita and PS3 on: September 14, 2011, 02:18:10 PM
May death come to all who dare insult FFX and X-2. Fuck the haters.
