I'm watching the original Conan the Barbarian film, and wow, the music really kicks ass.

I just finished the PS2 version of Okami. A little overrated, but good nonetheless.

I just started on My Chinese Coach and did okay on the proficiency test (enough to skip seven lessons), I've had a bit of trouble with the listening games but have done decently on the multiple choice.

I'm also on Chapter 11 of Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, still in my fourth cycle (having gotten premature endings three times thanks to Mid-Boss), without grinding.

I'm waiting on the PS3 version of Eternal Sonata as well.

I thought the Suikoden games to have their emotional moments, like in the first game when the hero
commits patricide.

Secret of Mana's ending I thought was sad as well.

I can't remember the last "anime game" that got an Ad in NA.

Well, the Dragon Quest games are sort of anime-influenced, and IX got some TV ads, with Seth Green, no less.

It'd really help Tales in the West if Namco-Bandai actually advertised them instead of being quiet about their releases. I don't think there's ever been an American TV spot for a Tales game, unless I'm mistaken.

Graces F was announced a long time ago for next year. NA/EU. Xillia, nothing yet.

Namco-Bandai, or Bandai-Namco or whatever the hell they're called in Europe actually showed off the game at an anime convention there I think, so I think there is a slim chance we could see that one, even if it's just in Europe (and the PS3 isn't region-coded, so...).
307  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Merged Final Fantasy XIII-2 Thread on: October 13, 2011, 03:58:03 PM
I'd probably stick with the English voices since I liked them just fine in the original FF13. Not really sure if I want to pick up XIII-2 though since my feelings were definitely mixed on its predecessor, and it isn't exactly my favorite Final Fantasy. I didn't mind the lack of towns since they tend to be a game-padding gimmick anyway, I guess my problems were more with the battle system and difficulty.

I personally don't mind bad voice acting in English or Japanese if there's an option to mute the voices and/or the ability to simply skip through the spoken dialogue, since 99% of the time I do that anyway, as I would rather read than listen.

That and the PSPVita being region-free for Vita and PSP games.

I just don't know, I feel I've been frequently conned into buying and playing games that were supposed to be great, but ended up severely letting me down because of crap like inconsistent difficulty, interface issues, lousy save systems, cheap enemies, and so forth, and my faith in humanity, developers, and game reviewers as a whole drops even greater, though you have to admit, it takes great communication skills to write reviews that give high scores and gush over a game that nonetheless turn someone off to a game.

Conversely, I've played a few games that weren't supposed to be good yet ended up liking them anyway. Whenever a reviewer or site gives a good review of a game I hate and a bad review of a game I like, then I pretty much lose the capacity to take anything they say seriously.

I'm not really a fan of playing a game just for bragging rights, but to each his own.

And the PSP isn't region-coded so...yeah, import away.

Yeah, it's a shame quality tends to not have anything to do with how well something does or sells, and if lousy products do or sell well, that really sends the wrong message to companies who will continue to churn out more crap.

I'll probably try out the original Demon's Souls, albeit with a grain of salt given what I've heard about its difficulty, and I'm not the kind of gamer who interchanges the words "fun" and "difficult" since playing a game, as far as I'm concerned, should never, ever be a chore.

It's not really difficult, it's more challenging and rewards you for playing well. If you play like an idiot, you'll suffer for it. It's fun because when you make it through something difficult, you feel like you accomplished something. However, you will die. It's unavoidable.

My idea of rewarding is getting a long, revealing cutscene after a grueling boss fight or an item that can make your life a little easier, and an ending that wraps up everyone's story isn't a bad idea, either. I remember playing Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and getting the "best" ending only to be horribly let down by an ending that didn't even last a minute.

How would you define "rewarding"?
315  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Mass Effect 3 on: October 12, 2011, 03:18:39 PM
So I'm reading this can affect the single player. Admittedly there are alternatives in single player, but it does make me worry how it'll be balanced there: will co-op just be the easy way out, or will it be a pain in the ass WITHOUT resorting to co-op? The latter WILL irritate me, plus this just sounds like some horde-type thing. But then they haven't revealed all the details yet, wasn't it stated there were some co-op scenarios planned?

I also kind of think it'd best best to experiment with this stuff in a whole new series, or at least after the concluding part of the trilogy. I think they're trying to go for what Demon's Souls did with it's online in a vague way, but at this point it's somewhat offputting.

I'm somewhat concerned myself, since I have an older PS3, although I can't use its internet connectivity on account of my home having wireless internet, the older PS3 not using Wi-Fi (at least from what I've seen, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), and my need to have something like an Ethernet connection to use the older PS3's said internet capabilities.

And yeah, I agree that it's best to experiment with significant changes in new series rather than within a series. It infuriates me that Final Fantasy does something drastically different with each installment, and while I've liked some of the changes, I'd rather they just call the games something else instead of lumping them all within the same series and making them sequels in name only.
