361  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Kingdom Hearts series plot, summed up in one Google Doc on: January 04, 2012, 11:02:02 PM
Even with one sentence and picture explanations it was confusing. Whoever is writing the story to these games (is it Nomura?) clearly got his calling wrong.

Sure as hell clears up a lot of confusion. Thank you, it fdefinitely warrants a topic of it's own.

Its - Possessive of it
It's - Contraction of it is
Its' - Not a real word

Before you use "it's" replace it with "it is" and ask yourself "does this sentence make sense?"

Second, I would appreciate the plot of the Kingdom Hearts games a hell of a lot more if they actually tried to be funny, and there's no fucking excuse for the lack of humor. It's hard to take seriously a plot with crossovers and cartoon characters.

Kidding, I actually know someone who liked the Prequels but didn't like KOTOR. I did enjoy KOTOR and its sequel and thought the writing was superior to that in all the Star Wars films. The writing in the originals is pretty shitty.

"Hold your fire? What, are we paying by the laser now?"
"Why you stuck up half-witted scruffy-looking nerf herder"
"We are fleeing into outer space with literally infinite directions to flee. However, we have decided we'll fly directly towards the fleet of storm troopers."
363  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dark Souls on: December 26, 2011, 05:09:25 PM
Yeah, I'm playing the first Demon's Souls which I got for Christmas, and it's probably the most fucking overrated game I've ever played. The Japs who decided that there shouldn't be a pause button or automaps should have their fucking heads chopped off.
364  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on: November 20, 2011, 12:54:34 AM
Zelda lately has been mostly miss for me, so I can probably live without this one.
365  Media / General Games / Re: BioWare's next new game is... on: November 08, 2011, 07:47:05 PM
BioWare as a developer has mostly been hit-or-miss for me, so I'm only cautiously optimistic about this title.
366  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: The Lord of the Rings: War in the North on: November 02, 2011, 03:32:50 PM
I personally found the Silmarillion and other Tolkien works outside the Lord of the Rings to be unreadable, but I wouldn't mind seeing game adaptations of said works.
367  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: My goal starting November: beat 1 RPG a month on: October 31, 2011, 10:14:27 AM
I almost always finish RPGs I begin unless I reach a point where the game becomes unbeatable for me or I just get plain sick of the game's mechanics.

Grinding in Episode 13 of Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, still on my fourth cycle.

I'm also about four hours and forty minutes through Eternal Sonata.

Also made some decent progress on My Chinese Coach, but I closed my DS while the game was saving and it corrupted my file, so I have to start from scratch. I'll probably deliberately flunk the proficiency test so I can grasp the language better when restarting.
369  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Suikoden Topic on: October 19, 2011, 06:16:28 PM
I'm disappointed Suikoden has gone the Final Fantasy route in terms of sequels in name only, but I still hope we get this one despite the PSP nearing the end of its life cycle.

Crisis Core - Was actually one of my favorite FF7 spinoffs, so I would definitely recommend it.
LoH: Trails in the Sky - Haven't played this one yet, though I have played two of three of the installments of the Garghav trilogy and thought they were decent.
Z.H.P. - Haven't played this one.
One of the Ys games - The port of Ark of Nephastiwhatever has bad loading times from what I've heard, but Oath in Felghana is actually one of my favorite action RPGs ever, and Ys Seven and Ys I + II Chronicles aren't bad, either.
Star Ocean: First Departure and Second Evolution are also among my favorite RPGs ever, so maybe those as well.

Haven't downloaded anything from PSN, so I woulen't know.
371  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Anime to game adaptations we may never see... on: October 15, 2011, 03:27:37 PM
Also admittedly most adaptations aren't really all that good anyway.

Agreed, though my experience has only been with the original four .hack games (though I may try the GU series since I've heard they're better).
372  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: What's the haps? on: October 15, 2011, 03:26:17 PM
I'm watching the original Conan the Barbarian film, and wow, the music really kicks ass.
373  The Rest / General Discussions / Re: The NEW Game Journal on: October 15, 2011, 03:25:32 PM
I just finished the PS2 version of Okami. A little overrated, but good nonetheless.

I just started on My Chinese Coach and did okay on the proficiency test (enough to skip seven lessons), I've had a bit of trouble with the listening games but have done decently on the multiple choice.

I'm also on Chapter 11 of Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, still in my fourth cycle (having gotten premature endings three times thanks to Mid-Boss), without grinding.

I'm waiting on the PS3 version of Eternal Sonata as well.
374  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: emotional RPG's ? on: October 15, 2011, 12:22:03 PM
I thought the Suikoden games to have their emotional moments, like in the first game when the hero
commits patricide.

Secret of Mana's ending I thought was sad as well.

I can't remember the last "anime game" that got an Ad in NA.

Well, the Dragon Quest games are sort of anime-influenced, and IX got some TV ads, with Seth Green, no less.
