Huh, I like AT2's soundtrack far more than AT1, at least within the game.

X-Edge: the crossover RPG five people have been dreaming about.

Does DQV have the horrible regional dialects that were in the previous game? That's enough to keep me from purchasin the game if so.
Pfft, you're weighing your decision on that? My deepest condolences.

A pet peeve of my own in strategy RPGs is the potential to piss away an eternity on a losing battle with no progress retained, and having to repeat that crap over and over. Those kinds of games seriously need continue systems of some sort.

Uh, I think you posted in the wrong forum.

Really didn't care much for this game, but it definitely deserves a new localization considering how godawful the original's was, what with the omission of the Snow Queen Quest and the whitewashing of all the characters. Not since Mickey Rooney's performance in Breakfast at Tiffany's had Asians been treated with such dignity and respect.

True, that.

The battle theme in Xenosaga III sounds like the Inspector Gadget theme.
The forest theme in Breath of Fire III sounds like the forest theme from Chrono Trigger.
The battle theme from Valkyrie Profile steals from the Alvin and the Chipmunks theme.
The overworld theme in Dragon Quest III and the Red Wings theme in Final Fantasy IV rip off of music from the Star Wars series.
The town theme in Dragon Quest III rips off the Itchy and Scratchy theme.
The main battle theme in Stella Deus steals a bit from the Indiana Jones theme.

I'm just being silly, but I do notice similarities :P Chicago's 25 or 6 to 4 would make a great boss battle theme.

Interesting link, though.

Didn't care much for the game, but kind of a kick in the nuts for those looking forward to it.
370  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Dragon Quest IX delayed, like, four months and... on: February 13, 2009, 12:18:39 PM
No big deal to me at all.
371  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Gust RPGs very mediocre? on: February 12, 2009, 01:28:44 PM
I think most of Gust's games are decent if a bit laggy and sometimes buggy, but I'm sort of sick of all the fanwanking/fan dumb over the company's games, like when people say things like "Atelier Iris 2 doesn't do things like the first game, so it sucks/points deducted," which just makes me lose to ability to take anything they say seriously.

I actually think AT2 is a major improvement over the first game in every aspect. Even the story seemed a lot better at first, but it's somewhat delved into a convoluted vision-quest hell. The gameplay I think is a lot better, though, and sort of reminds me of Valkyrie Profile.

I have this preordered.
374  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: White Knight Chronicles thread desu on: February 09, 2009, 05:18:09 PM
The 360 and DS might have the advantage in numbers, but for every good title there's like a dozen of bad or fairly generic rpgs.

That's how it is on every console. Disregard the poor and only look at the good, otherwise you'll wind up with the Sega CD as the best RPG console by merit of Lunar 1 & 2 and the fact people actually like Vay.
Ugh, Shining Force CD was the only Sega CD RPG I actually liked. I thought the original Lunar was mediocre and its sequel was worse, given its lousy save system.

Growlanser probably has Noriyuki Iwadare's best RPG soundtrack ever. I've actually played the Japanese version and hope it gets translated officially.
