361  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Ar Tonelico being reprinted on: May 18, 2008, 11:21:35 PM
I got the original boxed set with the soundtrack...game was okay, but I like the Atelier games better.
362  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Are old school RPGs still welcome? on: May 12, 2008, 05:42:30 PM
"Traditional" or "old-school" RPGs are fine by me, but there's certainly a lot of crap in the genre that could really use a rest.
363  Media / Single-Player RPGs / RPGs and Homosexuality on: May 11, 2008, 10:59:43 PM
Supposedly Brad in Wild ARMs 2...
364  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Suikoden for PSN on: May 08, 2008, 11:54:28 PM
Re-releases for Suikoden I and II in the U.S. are definitely in order. Speaking of which, it's been an eternity since another Suikoden game was announced...then again, there were fairly long gaps between I, II, and III...
365  Media / Single-Player RPGs / So X Edge (& Chaos Wars & crossover RPGs in general) on: May 07, 2008, 06:26:14 PM
I'm not particularly fond of crossovers since they typically come at the expense of good storytelling...
366  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Dragon Quarter, or "Save Nowhere!" on: May 05, 2008, 07:02:19 PM
Well, the game does have a quick-delete-save feature, which I think every RPG should has as it affects their balance in no way whatsoever. The game can certainly get brutal, although Dragon Powers can certainly get you out of tight situations. And it probably has the highest replay value of any RPG; I managed to get a perfect 1/4 D-Ratio ^^
367  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Earthbound on: May 02, 2008, 06:03:46 PM
Earthbound definitely has a lot going for it, though it's one of the few times I've played an RPG with the volume muted.
368  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Most Anticipated RPG for the summer on: May 02, 2008, 09:20:04 AM
Probably Etrian Odyssey II.
369  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Overrated & Underrated (with a twist!) on: May 01, 2008, 06:32:51 PM
I think Final Fantasy Tactics is vastly overrated. Whoever decided that the player can't undo movement needs to be shot, almost *every* enemy can counterattack, there are stupid annoying points of no return, random encounters on the overworld were a stupid idea, Cidolfas is your only hope in the last chapter, and the character art just looks stupid. Then again, I really haven't liked any FF spinoff games aside from X-2.
370  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Star Ocean 1 & 2 Remakes on: May 01, 2008, 04:51:17 PM
They'd be a decent reason for me to spring for a PSP.
371  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard announced for the US on: May 01, 2008, 12:07:53 PM
I honestly didn't think the original was that hard, and didn't have to "grind" often (except for the post-game quests). I didn't find it nearly as difficult as say, the SaGa games.
372  Media / Single-Player RPGs / A quick question about Persona 3. on: April 29, 2008, 11:30:48 PM
For me, age ratings more refer to maturity level than actual age levels. I'm sure any moron with no touch on reality over 17 could be inspired to shoot themselves to death in the head after playing this game. I would never do such stupid crap, even if below 17, because I was *raised right*.
373  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne reprint on: April 29, 2008, 10:04:24 PM
Kinda wish companies would have print-on-demand for these niche titles...
374  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Horror RPGs on: April 27, 2008, 08:33:52 PM
I've never truly been scared by any RPG...the thought of losing a lot of game progress because of cheap mechanisms definitely scares me at times, though :/
375  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Top 5 RPGs everyone loves to hate on: April 27, 2008, 08:32:45 PM
1. FFVIII - I don't understand the complaint that you have to spend an eternity drawing spells from enemies, since I made it fine through most of the game without doing so...and besides, drawing spells from enemies is just *one* way to get spells (I mostly used GF abilities to get spells). Triple Triad is definitely good, as well, as long as you don't encounter/spread around some of the lousy rules (like Random, which unfortunately happened to me; guessed I should've just reset the game -_-).

2. FFX - I've seen a lot of people whining about this one solely because of the lack of a "world map," an argument that I just think is silly, considering the unrealism of explorable overworlds where you're some fifty-foot giant. I thought the Sphere Grid and battle system were well-done, and while some of the mini-games are frustrating, their difficulty is understandable since completing them successfully can break the game's balance.

3. FFX-2 - I'm somewhat tired of the people that absolutely refuse to play this because of the girlish content, since I thought it had one of the best implementations of active-time battles, and one of the best class systems in the franchise and RPGs in general. As far as I'm concerned, X-2 is vastly superior to FF5, the previous class-based Final Fantasy, in terms of mechanics (and on equal ground in terms of story, since neither had a great story in my opinion).

4. Breath of Fire III - It does have issues, for sure, such as a paper-thin plot, and the Master system could've been better implemented, but I thought the battle system was alright, if the encounter rate was a little high.

5. Tales of Legendia - I think a lot of people didn't like this one since it wasn't like Tales of Symphonia, but I thought it had a nice take on 2-D Tales battles, although I did use Holy Bottles to keep the encounter rate at a tolerable level.
