No big deal to me at all.
362  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Gust RPGs very mediocre? on: February 12, 2009, 01:28:44 PM
I think most of Gust's games are decent if a bit laggy and sometimes buggy, but I'm sort of sick of all the fanwanking/fan dumb over the company's games, like when people say things like "Atelier Iris 2 doesn't do things like the first game, so it sucks/points deducted," which just makes me lose to ability to take anything they say seriously.

I actually think AT2 is a major improvement over the first game in every aspect. Even the story seemed a lot better at first, but it's somewhat delved into a convoluted vision-quest hell. The gameplay I think is a lot better, though, and sort of reminds me of Valkyrie Profile.

I have this preordered.

The 360 and DS might have the advantage in numbers, but for every good title there's like a dozen of bad or fairly generic rpgs.

That's how it is on every console. Disregard the poor and only look at the good, otherwise you'll wind up with the Sega CD as the best RPG console by merit of Lunar 1 & 2 and the fact people actually like Vay.
Ugh, Shining Force CD was the only Sega CD RPG I actually liked. I thought the original Lunar was mediocre and its sequel was worse, given its lousy save system.

Growlanser probably has Noriyuki Iwadare's best RPG soundtrack ever. I've actually played the Japanese version and hope it gets translated officially.
367  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Valkyrie Profile DS score (maybe old) on: January 19, 2009, 06:37:19 PM
*sigh* This is why review scores should be abolished completely. Text recommendations, such as "Buy," "Rent," "Don't Bother," or even "What You Can Play Instead" would definitely be welcome.
368  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: SaGa 2 remake announced on: January 15, 2009, 04:14:29 PM
The only thing these games really have going for them in my opinion is their music. Unless the remake doesn't resolve the typical crap balance the series is known for, I won't have anything to do with it, although I might get its soundtrack.

The art direction for this game is absolutely gorgeous.

My copy of the game plus the expansion pack have already shipped, according to Amazon.

A fitting way to celebrate my college graduation.

Finally, a new Shining game with the potential not to suck.
372  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Remember that KH:CoM PS2 remake? on: December 05, 2008, 04:19:06 PM
Chain of Memories was originally on the Gameboy Advance, last I checked, not the DS.
373  Media / Single-Player RPGs / Re: Remember that KH:CoM PS2 remake? on: December 05, 2008, 08:48:05 AM
CoM on the GBA was shit, but the PS2 version is better for one reason: you have more room to maneuver during battles so you can run around avoiding enemies while operating the unwieldy card system.
I actually can't imagine navigating Sora's card deck while avoiding enemies in 3-D, since doing so was somewhat tedious in 2-D, as well. Wasn't fond of the room-unlocking system, either, since if you're missing a card, you could spend an eternity fighting enemies just to get the needed card. Eerily reminded me of the Virus Core system from the .hack games.

I'm not particularly fond of stingy save systems myself, but I think many developers are afraid of letting players save their game anywhere because of the impact it will have on the game's difficulty (yet I think this is somewhat bull since the SaGa games let you save anywhere but are hardly cakewalks). As the editorial states, the quick-delete-save is a good solution for developers afraid of generous save systems impacting game difficulty.

RPGamer, more like RPGaymer.

Oh.

So? It's still a damn good editorial.
