General Discussions / What classes do you enjoy playing in RPGs?
« on: November 15, 2011, 02:55:05 PM »
See topic. What class do you like to play in RPGs, if the customization is very open-ended, what do you usually try to build your character into? If it's a game where you control a party, how do you build the party, do you make a standard team of tank-damage-heals, or do you try to make a team of hybrids, or something in-between? Just curious how other people like to play their RPGs.

Generally, I like playing hybrid classes because I like being given more options in a given situation. I tend to prefer stealth classes in cases of specialization if it's forced on the player. In games where you control a party, I tend to like to go an in-between route, where the characters are hybrids in some fashion but still have clearly defined roles- as in, I'd go for an awesome magic knight over a boring joe schmo knight. If the game has classes that look or feel original, I tend to like playing with those.

Multiplayer RPGs / World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria

Probably seems like a step back in terms of scale, but at the same time, going back to a more "naturalistic" design for the areas is potentially interesting.

Only big announcement gameplay-wise is a promise to revamp the talent system so it becomes more customizable. They've already tried this in Cataclysm (and failed), so let's see if they're able to do it this time, I suppose.

Also you can pretend to be Jack Black I guess.

There seems to be some player backlash with this announcement- people think it's some kind of joke. I can understand that, I suppose, taking a gimmick race and making them the center of a whole expansion. It'd be like making an entire FF game about a wait, I mean making an entire MMO expansion about wait. Well, shit.
