General Games / Megaman Unlimited
« on: August 12, 2013, 05:46:26 PM »
I stumbled on a fan-made 8-bit style Megaman game randomly the other day when I was on Youtube, called Megaman Unlimited.  It's pretty solid from what I've played of it so far (made it to Wily's castle stage 1).  It's probably the hardest 8-bit Megaman I've played to date; the level design is very solid, and insidious at the same time.  I encourage anybody that loves Megaman, and longs for Capcom to finally make an official Megaman 11, to check this out.

For more fun, try to keep a death count in Rainbow Man's stage.  I must've burned through 12 or 13 continues before I finally made it to the robot master (around 35 deaths).

General Discussions / 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs

It's that time of the year where we get to experience some friggin awesome fast-paced action-packed hockey!  No matter what teams, you can always count on some top-notch hockey come April.

I for one, am ecstatic.  I'm a huge fan of the Florida Panthers, and it's been 12 years since I last got to see them play a game in the playoffs... that's almost half of my life!

Anybody else excited?  It's been interesting so far, especially that first game between Philly and Pittsburgh, what a comeback!  And Vancouver losing on home ice in game 1.  Good stuff!

Single-Player RPGs / What are your favorite innovations in RPGs?
« on: October 20, 2011, 07:17:22 PM »
Hey everybody!  I was daydreaming a bit at work today, and for some odd reason I was trying to come up with the feature I like most that was introduced into the RPG genre.  I figured I'd start a topic to see what kinds of things in RPGs are most near and dear to the community.

For a format, I guess it can be... pick your favorite innovation, and then maybe an honorable mention.

For me, my favorite thing is probably the shift of battle music depending on how the fight is going, which I first noticed in The Last Remnant.  I find that it really gets the blood boiling when things are going bad, and you have this dangerous music playing, which is telling you to get your crap together and recover.  Then when you finally do get the music back to normal, you have that big sigh of relief.

I don't think it can work for all RPGs though, because it would be pretty irritating in quick snappy fights to have a shift in music every 4 seconds.  But for those long, grueling encounters with the same battle music playing for minutes and minutes, I think it's a cool refresher.

My honorable mention, is from Shining the Holy Ark.  I really dug the pixie system, since it kept you on your toes, always trying to anticipate where your monster encounters will originate from; whether above, below, to the side, or in front of you.  You get a decent edge in the fight for sending out the right pixie type (though it degrades the advantage when you're futher in the game), and you get some extra EXP and gold, which is pretty groovy incentive if you ask me.

RPGFan: Site / Podcasts in Navigation Bar?
« on: September 20, 2011, 06:32:50 PM »
Since the number of Podcasts is growing substantially, I think it would be a nice enhancement to add Podcasts as an item on the navigation bar, kind of like the Features option.  It's sort of painful going through thousands of news feeds looking for the old random encounter episodes.
