Multiplayer RPGs / Monster Hunter World
« on: March 23, 2018, 09:02:30 PM »
Surprised there's no thread for Monster Hunter World, supposedly Capcoms best selling game possibly ever. I'm about 200 hours in and yeah, it's really good but time-consuming. Anyone else playing this game?

General Discussions / E3 2017
« on: June 10, 2017, 09:10:49 PM »
So, are we not doing an E3 thread?
Just EA conference so far but Anthem and A Way Out both look interesting. Anthem being done by actual Bioware, not Bioware Montreal. Though I wouldn't have minded a sequel to Andromeda. Curious to see if we're gonna get any dialogue wheels.
A Way Out is not what I expected next from the people that made Brothers. I hope it's like Shawshank Redemption prison escape or something similar, just not taking 20 years of digging a tunnel.

General Games / Fighting Games
« on: May 11, 2017, 07:59:01 AM »
So, we are about to experience a deluge of games in this genre, Injustice 2(5/16), Tekken 7(6/2), Guilty Gear Rev2(5/26) and Marvel vs Capcom:Infinite(9/19). Thought I would make a general fighting games thread to gauge interest. We've been getting tournaments almost every weekend these days too and Evolution 2017 draws close.

A big one if people have an interest in seeing what high level Street Fighter 5 looks like is E-league as it's actually being broadcast on TBS though at the 10pm Eastern slot. The soonest one is tomorrow 5/12, starts on stream/the league site early in the afternoon and then the finals will be aired on TBS. If you watch through their site they have some promotions to earn some fight money too.

Anyways, if people have an interest in learning/jumping into the genre or just playing casuals, I probably will get most of these games. Just message me somewhere or post in this thread.

General Discussions / Playstation Experience 2016
« on: December 03, 2016, 10:41:08 AM »
Did not know whether I should start this new topic or just revive the one from last year. But Playstation Experience day 1 will be upon us in about 2 hours or so. With the huge rumors of Marvel vs Capcom 4, people will collectively lose their minds if true.

Not sure how it'll compare to last years event. But I'm personally looking forward to seeing more stuff about Ace Combat 7, Horizon, Death Stranding stuff and the new SF 5 character reveal. Capcom cup finals is also going to be at the event.  It's interesting nothing FF7R related is in the schedule though.

What are people looking forward to seeing?

Multiplayer RPGs / Gwent
« on: November 03, 2016, 09:45:43 PM »
So, anyone else get into the closed beta? I streamed for like an hour and I'm liking what I'm seeing so far in terms of balance(completely removed the spy mechanic cause there's no way to balance that). Didn't play the dlc yet so it was my first taste of Skellige decks and I really like the balancing taking damage and playing around with the graveyard. Too bad more of the cards, trying to open kegs currently crashes the client. Been playing a lot of digital tcgs lately and this, hex(new pve content incoming), elder scrolls legends and duelyst are the ones I'll probably keep up to date with.

General Discussions / Humble Bundle
« on: October 26, 2016, 12:22:30 AM »
So new humble bundle just got upped and the highlights(at least for me) are Chroma Squad, Spaera and Assault Cactus Android. Even just those 3 games for (as of right now) 4 bucks is quite a steal.

Spaera is something in the vein of puzzle fighter or tetris attack, saw a demonstration of it at some fighting game tournament awhile back. It's got interesting ideas with unique character abilities and its not your standard tetris physics which takes some getting used to. It is still in early access so, the usual stuff applies. Also, this game doesn't seem to have an in-game tutorial tutorial, I had to go to their website to learn the game systems which is quite a big misstep I think

Assault Cactus Android seems a pretty solid top down twin stick style shooter. It also boasts 1-4 player local co-op which I am not sure how that works on pc, I guess if you have that many usb ports you can plug in that many controllers.

Streamed some Chroma Squad earlier. A very competent SRPG thus far, it really makes use of the sentai theme. So far, I'm most impressed by them sneaking in some Backstreet boys lyrics in the tutorial.

Not sure where I'm taking this thread but hoping maybe people can share their opinions on whether each humble bundle is worth it. Most of them are however, the price to content ratio is usually just too good. Maybe an opinion of what games are worth your time in each bundle?

Multiplayer RPGs / Elder Scrolls Legends
« on: September 17, 2016, 10:56:03 AM »
Has anyone else tried this game's beta yet? Been playing and streaming it for a week or so and best I can describe it is Hearthstone meets Duel of Champions. The 2 lane system brings a much needed depth to tcg combat and it brilliantly takes advantage of the digital medium. You now have to think and consider where to place your creatures now instead of just plopping them all down whenever. It is still kinda RNG swingy but that's probably most card games in general. Online tcg does seem to be a new trend now, people wanting a piece of that Hearthstone money. We got the Runescape tcg, Duelyst(which is also quite good), Hex, Gwent and this all coming out of the woodwork.

Single-Player RPGs / Yakuza 5
« on: August 02, 2016, 11:51:35 PM »
So friends, Yakuza 5 is free for ps plus this month. Which can only mean one thing, time to play some mahjong and pachinko. On a serious note though this game is amazing so far with taxicab racing and all the minigames. The convenience store actually has the first chapters of a whole bunch of shonen manga that you can read, it's really cool. And the arcade has taiko drum master you can play. I wonder if the multiple perspective/playable characters is going to be something they do for every yakuza game from now on because I know 0 has both Majima and Kiryu playable. so go forth, download that 23 gig game and let the Dragon of Dojima rise again!

General Discussions / Evolution 2016
« on: July 13, 2016, 10:36:34 PM »
So I guess I've become the fighting game guy, but Evo this year is almost upon us! The main games this year are, Street Fighter 5, Smash Wiiu, Smash Melee, Pokken Tournament, Guilty Gear Xrd, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Mortal Kombat X, Tekken 7 and Killer Instinct.

Some of the storylines for this year include
1. Most of the games have experienced decent growth, barring MKX, UMVC 3 and Guilty Gear Revelator. But Street Fighter 5 has reached the insane number of 5065 entrants this year, and both Smash Wiiu and Smash melee both over 2000 entrants each.

2. A lot of clamor over making recently released characters tournament legal. Both Ibuki and Balrog for SF5 have been out for about 2 weeks and a lot of people claim Akuma in Tekken 7 is too new also. In fact, there was an Ibuki bug discovered and immediately patched where when she does an air throw, she becomes completely invincible for 6 frames while landing. If someone gets far/wins with one of these characters, the blowups will probably be real. It's also a problem in that the newest version of Tekken 7 is arcade only so far and thus, American players have no way to play it currently

3.Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, a series that has been considered by many to be Americas game since very few players outside of the US play it, was won by an international player from Chile last year. Kaneblueriver also seems extremely strong coming into evo this year as he has won a lot of the tournaments leading up to now. Can the US take back the title?

4. Similarly, Sonicfox might be in an even more untouchable situation in Mortal Kombat X. The guy has taken first at almost every major MKX tournament for the year. In fact, he won about 100 grand in the span of a week or so at some point. Though to be fair, one of them was the major international tournament for the game, sponsered by Esports League and Netherrealm themselves. Actually come to think of it, he's been the champion for ESL pro league in MKX for 3 seasons running, I'm not sure that's ever happened in any game.

5. Pokken tournament was the subject of a lot of mockery and outrage when it was first announced to be one of the main games for evo this year. But the results have been a surprisingly large amount of entrants and interest. I've actually watched some of the tournaments, it looks quite fun. The main problems with the game are that it's on Wiiu, and each setup requires 2 consoles and 2 monitors since split screen is untenable in a tournament. That game is just a logistical nightmare in a big tournament with almost 1200 entrants.

6. Top 8 for Street Fighter 5 will be broadcast this year on ESPN 2. Not sure how many viewers this will actually attract, but I'm surprised it's not on The Ocho.

If interested at all, here is the stream schedule for the event

I actually put in vacation so I could stay home and watch it. If people wanna head onto some kinda irc chat or something while viewing, I would be up for that.

General Games / Paragon
« on: July 09, 2016, 12:53:09 PM »
So Paragon is free on PS plus this month and I played a few matches. It's a solid moba with interesting ideas, the shift to third person changes some stuff up. Wondering if anyone else has given it a shot. If people are interested, I'm all for playing some matches. I think it's cross play between ps4 and pc too, not sure.

Single-Player RPGs / World of Final Fantasy
« on: June 06, 2016, 11:40:02 PM »
so, new trailer released

No gameplay shown but damn, they got the original voice actors back. Wonder if the person who voices Cloud in this will also voice him in the FF7 remake. Though I wonder how they will weave together the plot for characters from other FFs. The chibi blob artstyle is quite good too.

Release date end of October is a sooner than I would've thought, but this game seems promising.

General Discussions / Combo Breaker 2016
« on: May 29, 2016, 09:33:49 AM »
well, not sure how much interest there will be but it's finals day for Combo Breaker 2016. There's all the fighting games you expect but of particular note is the mystery game tournament where players are thrown into a different mystery game to compete in each round, usually games no one ever knew existed such as a space jam and jurassic park game with hilarity ensuing. for that weird newer jojo game followed by some tetris. for various top 8s over the course of the day and we'll probably get to see who this month's dlc character for SF 5 is even though we'll be getting them in like 2 days. Man, they have a Vampire Savior tournament and I haven't played that game in over a decade.

Multiplayer RPGs / Final Fantasy Explorers
« on: January 30, 2016, 02:46:36 PM »
Anyone get this game for 3DS? Started it last night and there are a lot of interesting mechanics in this game. In fact, I expected this game to be a lot simpler. The grind is pretty real but with a full team it's looking like a very engaging time.

General Discussions / Playstation Experience 2015
« on: December 05, 2015, 01:17:14 PM »
Anyone else watching the stream? I'm just thinking "They're jus gonna open with FF7 gameplay? That's very ambitious". Already shaping up to be interesting, maybe even possibly some free stuff? We got plants vs zombies garden warfare last year and that was actually really awesome. Also, Barrett totally looks like Wesley Snipes Blade.

General Discussions / Evolution 2015

It's nearing that time of the year again with the biggest fighting game tournament on the planet only a few days away. If people are in need of the schedule or which twitch channels the streams are on, acekingoffsuit made a handy chart here . It's kinda insane there are so many games this year evo needs 7 twitch channels. If animu games are within your interests, there is a google doc showing all the anime airdashy game side tournament streams here . Also, Divekick side tournament on saturday, watch it.
