Anime, TV, and Movies / If I were to watch ONE comedy show...
« on: August 05, 2014, 09:35:05 PM »
...what would you recommend?

I'm not big on comedies. Whether it's TV shows or movies I mostly see them as a waste of time, and filler between "real" shows/movies.
I can't remember the last time I watched a comedy show on a consistent basis. Seinfeld? Yeah, it's been that long.
So, I KNOW there are great shows out there that my dumb head is missing out on. I hear about shows like Parks and Recreation, and Arrested Development, and get slightly interested, but never enough to take the plunge.
I think I would be more open to an hour long comedy/drama type series. I mostly can't stand sitcoms with their laugh tracks and stupid humor. I saw an episode of Two and a Half Men once, and was baffled as to how it was so popular. It was awful.
People keep telling me to try The Big Bang Theory, but I have a feeling I'll get the same result.
I would appreciate any recommendations. Especially shows available on Netflix.
Thanks!

The Soundroom / Indie Game Music
« on: June 24, 2013, 10:53:21 AM »
I've been discovering more and more how much good music is being made for all those "smaller" games out there. PSN, XBLA, iOS games, Indie PC games, etc.
The Game Music bundles(http://blog.gamemusicbundle.com/) have really helped. I'm loving pretty much every soundtrack I've heard by Zircon. The Fittest and Globulous(with Jeff Ball) soundtracks are great.

I'm also digging Modules work. Shatter is totally groovy. I love his original music, too. Imagineering is fantastic.
I love Austin Wintory's soothing movie soundtrack style used in Horn and Journey.

The soundtrack for inMomentum by Gareth Coker just gets your blood pumping.

Dust, Braid, To the Moon are all great. I could go on and on.
So what else is out there? What am I missing? Share some great music, please!
Thanks

The Helper Monkey / Wii issues
« on: December 26, 2011, 01:41:40 PM »
Alright, so my son was playing Twilight Princess, gamecube version, on the Wii and the screen kept flashing on and off. At first I thought it was my Tv(Samsung HDtv), but it works just fine when the Wii isn't on. Then I thought it was some weird compatibility issue with the Wii playing gamecube games. Or even just Twilight Princess. I guessed wrong, as right after I started up Skyward Sword last night, the screen started flashing again. Now I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my Wii(insert joke here). Anyone ever hear of, or deal with, such an issue? I'd hate to have to go buy a new Wii, but I will do it to play Zelda and Xenoblade.
This is really pissing me off. I've never had an issue with any Nintendo console, so I'm a bit mystified.

General Discussions / RPGs as Therapy
« on: September 23, 2011, 09:14:49 PM »

What a surprise to see this latest RPGFan writeup. It's nice to see a positive article about gaming, and read about how gaming really can help get you through some of lifes struggles.  I appreciate the honesty and openness it took for the editors to write their contributions.
I've mentioned a time or two that I suffer from widespread chronic pain. Several doctors have referred to it as Fibromyalgia. The pain never goes away. It can only be temporarily "muted". I could have written the exact same article as Kimberly. Great games like Mass Effect 2 allow me to escape, oh so temporarily, into a world where I'm not dealing with these things. I happily allow it to happen, if only an hour or two at a time. Because of this, gaming is more important to me than ever nowadays.
Anyway, I'd like to hear about other peoples RPG "therapy". It's nice to know you're not alone.

Anime, TV, and Movies / Value of Manga
« on: August 22, 2011, 01:37:04 PM »
I had a big box of comic books(mostly manga) at my dads house that I now have brought home. These are a mix of titles like Ranma 1/2, Gunsmith cats, Akira, etc. etc.
Do you guys know if they would be worth anything? If so, what's the best way to find out their worth? How should I go about selling them?
If there's no value there, then I'll just let Benjamin go through them and read what interests him.
Thanks

The Helper Monkey / search engine virus?
« on: August 18, 2011, 09:45:03 AM »
Anyone ever hear of/deal with a virus that blocks you from using your search engine? At first, it was just google, but now it's all of them. You go to search for something and it automatically sends you to some unrelated page.   My wife is going insane trying to fix it. We've ran AdAware, Malwarebytes, some Avgn thing she heard about, among others. Plus, we have Mcafee already installed that never caught it!
Any ideas folks?
