I'd say it's more about the experience than anything else.  Compelling narrative is nowhere to be found.  But they nailed the AD&D atmosphere perfectly.  The enemies are straight out of a monster's compendium.

I concur....

the npc animation facial and otherwise are robotic or not there at all.

i'm playing as a sexy russian looking strider and my pawn is this 12 year red head mage. i'm hoping to find some cooler clothes for my pawn. the clothes for mages look like glorified potato sacks in the beginning. i almost wish i could make more pawns just to see the different things they bring back for others games.

i got caught outside fighting the previously spoiler coded monster at night without oil for my lantern it was pitch black except for magic that felt pretty engaging to me. i actually lost two of my support pawns too cause i wasn't close enough to revive them.

Few questions about this game.

Why do all the pawns I try and hire cost 0 RC? The first time I played they had costs, but now they don't? Not that it matters, just curious.

Seems like every bounty board has its own set of quests, they aren't linked, is that correct? In terms of these quests, for the escort quests, if you accept them all, do they have a time limit, or is it best to do one at a time so you don't fail?

I haven't seen where giving gifts or doing good deeds changes the NPCs view of my character at all, am I missing something here?

Using a bow with no lock on is clumsy, does the ranger have lock on capabilities?

Also, I notice I have several types of arrows in my inventory, but don't see any place where I can select which ones to use...

these are things i was confused with and i don't have an answer to the npc thing yet either. idk about the ranger thing but i doubt it. the arrows you have to go to tools in your inventory and select use. i think that the cost of pawns is related to if they are higher level than you on not anything under my level is free. i still haven't done the escort quests in your hometown cause i wanted to find the places first. you can only take the escort missions one at a time anyhow but idk if there is a time limit on anything.

Cost increases with each level higher than your character's.  An exception is made for pawns that are owned by players on your friends list.  They are free no matter what level they are.

You can only do one at a time from what I can tell.  If there's a time limit, I haven't experienced it.

If you've increased affinity with someone, when you attempt to speak with them, you'll hear a chime.  If you've maxed affinity, you will see a pink glow around them.  I don't know anything beyond this so far.

Clumsy?  This... doesn't make any sense to me at all.  Using a bow in this game is no different than Shadow of the Colossus, or any other action game that utilizes archery.  If you want to strike a specific point, you have to use some gaming skill and aim, and in most cases anticipate where your opponent will be after you fire.

But if you do desire lock on, magick archer will fill your needs.  I'm leveling it up right now so I can see what kind of augments I get after maxing it out, but I intend to switch back to ranger the moment I hit cap.  Lock-on makes it difficult, and in some cases impossible to focus on certain weak points.

You use them in your inventory like you would your lantern or healing herbs.

Clumsy, in that most RPGs, ranged attacks have a lock on ability for ranged attacks. This being an action game, I wasn't sure if I was missing something since lock on is mentioned in the manual for certain skills, but I haven't seen it yet.

Is there teleport/fast travel options at some point, either through materials/spells etc? Traversing back and forth is becoming quite tiresome.

Lock-on is magic oriented.

As for fast travel, there is an item that can teleport you back to Gran Soren that costs 20,000 a piece.

You retain everything you gained.  In fact, you can switch back to previous vocations for no cost.  Some vocations have similar skills, and such skills transfer to the others when you switch.  For example, Scarlet Kisses is the default Strider dagger skill, and the advanced version is Hundred Kisses.  If you've unlocked Hundred Kisses on Strider, when you switch to Ranger, Assassin, or Magick Archer, you will still be able to use Hundred Kisses even though you're vocation level 1 and not have to wait until vocation level 4 or 5 or whatever and unlock it again.

The importance of switching classes lies primarily in the augments... those can be used no matter what vocation you're using.  I've got a mixture of Strider and Ranger augments on my Magick Archer at the moment.

LOVING this game!!  I really dig the Pawns.  Very fun to try different Pawns and run with a set crew for a while, then switch out to some different fresh Pawns.  I like logging on and seeing that someone used my Pawn (I don't know why, but it's kinda cool).

There are times when the graphics are downright stunning.  It's just a great, traditional, party-system RPG.  Two big thumbs up from me!

that's sweet, looks like i know what i'm doing tonight.

i'd concur with you chairman7w i'm really having a good time with this thus far. there are flaws but most of the flaws are things i don't care about much anyhow. i like running from place to place in most games so lack of quick travel isn't a big deal to me but i can see how that'd drive some people nuts. i tend to not use auto lock-on's either. i'm not holding my breath on the story but i'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised by the end. i'm hoping that there is a tie in with the title "dragon's dogma" and something to do with the pawns explained a bit more. i'm just having fun climbing around on monsters and exploring. if they do dlc with more crazy monsters i think i'd be sold on that alone if there is a way to fix the water so you can swim in it and attack sea beasts that'd kick ass. solid for a first realase on a new ip. i hope this gets the follow up unlike some other new ip's that were flawed but good.

Gamefly is consistently letting me down with this, so I am debating on a purchase this weekend.

It's surprisingly been sold out everywhere in the local area where I'm at.  Which I think is cool, since the game is totally worth it.  I've put like, 30 hours in so far and I have a long ways to go from what I can tell.... and then there's still NG+ to do afterwards.
