So I'm in the market for a 32" tv or so depending on deals. I'm going to try and hold out for a few weeks for good deals online. Assuming this tv will get used for xbox 360 and probably a next gen console when they come out, is it even worth getting a 120hz refresh rate? At 32" is getting 1080 beneficial in any sort of way?

I can't answer your technical questions but you should probably wait till black Friday and see what, if any, TVs will be on sale then. Those lines tend to suck but you'd probably find the best deal then. Hopefully anyway.

Unless I'm missing something, it seems that 120hz modes look like crap. If you're watching a movie or show with live actors, it makes it look like you're watching a home video or something. It's like watching tv at 60 frames per second.. I couldn't stand it.
at 32" , 1080 won't look better unless you have extremely good eyes, but there will be slowdown from rendering at a higher resolution. I'd suggest 720p without 120hz, unless someone can explain some benefit to 120hz.

Yoda, I notice the difference on a 32inch between 1080p and 720p. Whether you notice any difference I can't tell, but if it's for 360 use then i'd say go for it. About 120hz, this was pushed by lcd manufacturers to combat motion blur years ago. I think todays technology makes for smooth viewing @ 60hz. Neither plasma or led would produce motion blur @ 60hz so if it's either of these formats then I wouldn't worry. In 2011, a 32incher running at 1080p should be perfectly fine

1080p would be best for future-proofing. Hardly any PS3/360 games actually run at that resolution and scale the picture instead (the vast majority are 720p, and sometimes even less), but by the time the next generation of consoles comes around it may well be the standard.
