JRPGs are all about being told a story. You are told what is what, there are established characters and themes, and you are along for the ride. There are a multitude of different battle systems, some are action orientated like star ocean or the Tales series, some are turn based, some try to combine the two, but all in all JRPGs is a superior vehicle to tell a story. WRPGs are all about immersion, and while not my cup of tea (i don't play games to escape my shitty life I play games to hear a story) I can see the appeal. I know someone is gonna respond "HURRR the wrpgs have stories too mass effect dragon age fallout is all so much better than shitty anime belts!" and to that I reply yeah but I mean, when thinking of all the great literature throughout history, how many of them have been "Choose Your Own Adventure!!!" books?
The problem though is JRPG developers not named atlus and Falcom all have their heads up their asses at the moment
