No they don't.  I know of at least one forum that has an excellent collection of smilies.  While the default smilies for most boards are indeed awful, I can think of a few custom created smilies that are quite excellent.

They are the devil's tool. In fact, I suspect that you are in league with Satan for even questioning such an obvious fact.

Seriously though, we all hate 'em, and the times we need to use them for effect, we can just host them ourselves. They'd probably have to all be changed to look half-decent on these boards anyway. :P

Edit: And maybe so MonCaptain, but I like the good ol' fashioned :P, without any graphical crap. At the least, that graphic must /not/ be forced on us.

I'm used to smilies being disables on this forum so the lack of them does not bother me too much.  There are some incredible smilies out there, though. Check out the samples below.

The only forum I have seen that has had cool smilies is shiningforcecentral.com.  And that is because Domingo smilies win the Olympics.  At cuteness.  ^_________^
