if i recall mtv owns gametrailers.com so take the numerical score with a grain of salt. as a hardcore fan of the original game a few things disapoint me but much like chrono cross it's still a good game.

Honestly, that's a pretty good score from a mainstream gaming site.  This game isn't built for the same folks that want to play Final Fantasy as an RPG, and nothing else.  It's built for us.  And in that sense, it's an awesome title.

Fox owns IGN. What's your point?

A lot.

Unless she imported it, she hasn't played it so I wouldn't worry unless she's just quoting the review. Nevertheless, if you dig around in reviews it sounds like it's a relevant comparison - it's likely to piss off people who just want more of VP1, going by the import reviews and what I heard from John.

You'll likely see that exact comparison in my review when the game hits.

Anyway, expect a hands-on preview before Friday.

unfortunately i have never gotten the chance to play the first one.  I don't own a psp and didn't know about the game until it was very overpriced.

Hopefully this works out for the better when I play VP2 in September.

The only gaming site I ever visit - besides this one - is gamespot, and although I do enjoy to read their reviews, I do think they suck at scoring RPGs.

Naw, they just are really hard on RPG scores....they know that the people that play RPGs are usually in the "hardcore" crowd and personally I'm glad they rarely give out great scores for them....makes me have to do my research before I decide to dedicate 40+ hours of my life to a game.

Why do you say that anyway? If you mean that they don't score them high enough, RPGs seem to be one of the more 9 filled genres there are, and one of the only ones to have one that scored a 10 (Chrono Cross). If it's something else though... Well, /I/ think they do a good job. Most any RPG that's great gets at least an 8, and personally I think that's a damn good score. I can only think of VP and SO3 off the top of my head that might have deserved higher scores - and honestly, I thought those were flawed enough that, objectively, they may not really deserve more than 7-ish scores.

Chrono Chross got a 10?  Wow... I also remember when EGM (lol) wrote their FFX-2 review, they gave it 9.5-10s.

To be honest I don't trust any rpg reviews outside this board and this site.  I'm sure there are other good ones out there, I just don't see the need to visit many.
