More like Ashton Shepard vs Liz Shepard.

Calling it "Sony's Smash Bros" is sure to doom it already. Much like any time someone has tried to launch a "Zelda killer" or "Final Fantasy killer".

That's not actually what Sony is calling it...
In fact Sony has barely said anything about it at all. It's pretty much all speculation at this point.

No, I know. This is strictly a fan-related problem. Games can rarely live up to the expectations built by another brand.

I never "got" the smash bros thing but if sony wants to cash in then give'er. I suspect that if it works then microsoft won't be far behind. master chief and....marcus phonenix i guess..
Pretty sure they can wrangle Commander Shepard too.
Male Shep v Fem Shep?
All of my money.

Their motion controller was a glowing wiimote that looks like it was based off a dog penis. What do you expect?

So it's
real and official
. And it has the terrible name, "PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale".
OK, rereading this old thread I was clearly very down on this game. And now that there's some video out there it looks even
more
like a carbon-copy of Smash Bros. than I feared. Clearly it isn't winning any originality points. But at least all the game journalists who have played it are claiming that it's pretty fun. So it's a rip-off, but perhaps not a shitty rip-off.
I don't know what to think.

Urgh, I still don't think Sony has enough memorable characters to pull this off. It'd be like if EA made a similar game.
Plus Smash Bros. clones have
never
really
went
that
well
. I hope I'm wrong but I have some worries about this game.

If I'm going to play Smash Bros. I go and buy Smash Bros. not a rip-off. Also, I'm not into Smash Bros. but that's how I feel about this game/thing.

http://www.siliconera.com/2012/04/27/how-playstation-all-stars-battle-royale-is-different-from-super-smash-bros/
So apparently it's Super Smash Bros. but instead of kicking people off the stage, throwing people off the stage, being a douche and holding the edge of the stage while dooming the other guy to fall off the stage, environmental hazards tossing people off the stage, and so on you only get to use final smashes to down an opponent.
Nice Sony. Very nice. Next you're going to be telling us that all stages will be like Final Destination, instead of just one or two.

This makes me laugh. The reason Smash Bros work is because it uses (mostly) characters that have been adored by a wide range of gamers for two decades. Sony's version features a couple of memorable characters from the last 5 years followed by (what I've seen so far) a roster of crap.
