Number Two's eyes narrowed and became what are known in the Shouting and Killing People trade as cold slits, the idea presumable being to give your opponent the impression that you have lost your glasses or are having difficulty keeping awake. Why this is frightening is an, as yet, unresolved problem.

"UPDATE: In a move that is perhaps unsurprising given the fact that Nintendo's stock dropped 2% following the spread of this story, Nintendo is now denying that Miyamoto's role is changing at all. The publisher sent out an official statement late last night to refute the quotes from the Wired story."

As one if few major advocates of Zelda here, throat part of me will be sad if it affects development of them at all (and we seriously need more Metroid). Otherwise, well... I dunno what "small games" means but it certainly doesn't sound like today's trend of ridiculously high budgeted epics you see today. We'll see what these low-budget titles can do in terms of staying power...

I kinda wanted and hoped Wii-U was going to be a marvel to revolutionize gaming too, a lot of Wii games seems low budget enough, don't think they need Miyamoto's help there.  *shrug*

Low budget doesn't automatically mean bad game. I've played some amazing low-budget indie games.

I'm personally kind of excited to see what he'd bring. I'm sure he'll still have some sort of say in his franchise babies.

I didn't mean it that way, I am saying it's not always the best draw for most, more common idiot, gamers.

Seems cool. Maybe he'll be able to make the 'next' mario instead of the 'next mario'.

When I think of "low budget" and "Shigeru Miyamoto" I think of the NES games, like the original Super Mario Bros. I'd love a return to that sort of thing if he can still pull it off, certainly I higher hopes there than for Richard Garriott's return.

I'm hearing it's sort of in the middle (discounting the knee jerk reactions of "HE'S RETIRING!?") in that he's still overseeing Nintendo's games, but is taking a smaller role there and a greater one in training new employees.

I still hope he gets to develop smaller games, but for the best results he'd probably have to leave overseeing outside of a very general sense.

taking a smaller role

He had a big role?  I thought he just marched around the office with a Master Sword and Hylian Shield and commanded folks sometimes.

He also flips tables when he gets mad.

Miyamoto has the seniority to run around the office dressed like Link. Still, he doesn't really look the part.

And that's how Tingle was born.
