I haven't even had to really fight a room full of infected things yet, I'm still trying to get out of the city/quarantine zone/whatever it is. I definitely went back and put it on Easy, to my great shame, but still ended up getting killed about a dozen times on this one sequence before sighing heavily, lamenting the ravages of age, and giving up for the evening.

I'm just not all grokking what I'm supposed to be doing here. I'm getting it is much more stealth game than combat game, but I can't seem to figure out where everything is - I'm getting spotted by guys I didn't even know were there. I have a feeling I'm going to end up consulting a lot of walkthroughs for this one...

Are you using the "super hearing?" If you're being surprised by people a lot, try taking things very slowly and using the hearing ability whenever you're moving around a place you don't know is empty. Should help you start getting the drop on folks.
Friends, waffles, work. Or waffles, friends, work. Doesn't matter, but work is third.

Yeah I'm using that constantly. I am just not sure I understand the rules of engagement.

I switched to easy and made some progress right up until the museum and then died over and over. Taking a break and heading out for a drink! I've been killed so many times at least it isn't a scary jolt anymore!

Incidentally this game is pretty compelling, I just am terrible at it!

then died over and over.

Don't worry, I finished the game with over 300 deaths.
Dying happens a lot.

The game gets much better after the museum, IMO.  The stealth mechanics work a bit better and they don't seem to "cheat" as much and initiate combat for no good reason.  Work up to that part and you should be fine.

I'm the worst gamer ever. if I beat it (on easy, mind you) so can you. I had a lot of trouble early on, too.

Yeah I agree, the early game portions really throws you into a den of lions, but things balance out after that "initial hell".  IIRC Resident Evil 5 had a really hard first level too that really quickly gets you used to the game.

I probably died more in the area where you first encounter clickers than anywhere else in the game, so I totes agree, the game definitely amps up the difficulty pretty early on.

Really?  I always had way more trouble with human enemies than clickers.  The clickers are so predictable...

I agree, but when I first encountered them I had no idea what to really expect. Plus, I'm as good at stealth as an angry elephant in a tiny, well lit room.

Thanks for the help guys - this has gotten easier as the game has progressed. I'm still getting clobbered, just less regularly.

I, too, am apparently horrendous at stealth.

I'm surprised people had trouble with the sniper section, but I also think I broke the game on that part.  The last group of guys can't seem to navigate the fence on the far left side, so you can kinda plant there and pick them off one by one with your munitions.
