The next "Trails" title has been announced and its for the PSP, not the vita.

http://www.siliconera.com/2011/12/20/next-trails-game-is-trails-of-nayuta-and-its-for-psp/

The question I now pose is, how does this impact our chances of seeing it stateside??

NOTE: Huge fan of "Trails" here *points to self....... very concerned about this indeed.....

Falcom is pretty fond of Ports, see Ys, so by the time XSEED actually gets around to this it will probably already be on another system (Vita? Possibly even PC). From a realistic standpoint, given XSEED's small size and their speed at which they've localized TitS 1 and 2, I'd say give it 4-5 years.

Hell, I'd rather have them ignore the third game in the "current" Trails trilogy and move onto Blue.

You should worry more about Trails of Blue.

Don't you mean Zero? Blue's the second one.

If it came down to it, I wouldn't be opposed to them bypassing 3rd myself. It has lots of nice fanservice for those who enjoyed the first two, and you'd be left not really knowing a whole lot about Kevin's character without it, but outside of that it's not really essential. SC ties up almost all of the story introduced in FC, and everything else aside, 3rd simply isn't as good as the two before. Would still be nice for people to have it, mind, but if it meant greater chances of seeing the Zero trilogy in English... That being said, I think there's every likelihood that the entire Zero trilogy will end up ported to Vita like the original trilogy was ported to the PSP. They've already announced a full voice version of Zero for the Vita, after all. So if the trilogy is bypassed for localisation, I don't think it'll be due to the PSP dying.

On the topic of the game: super excited. Both FC and SC are among my favourite games ever, and more Kiseki can only be a good thing! I really need to find more free time, though. I still haven't played either Zero or Ao, and both sit on my shelf giving me sad puppy dog eyes every time I walk by. :/

So this is a brand new Trails with new story and characters? Hm, they haven't done that in a while... I mean, I know about the Zero trilogy but that was for the little I know of it an hybrid of sequel/spin-off thing.

And right know I dunno what might be the plans that Xseed has for the series over here. There's like more than 3 games to translate and a versus game of Ys vs. Sora no Kiseki for the PSP that looked nice, a big mess of games that I really have no idea how is gonna be in the future with Falcom putting so many of them so relatively fast.

I actually would love a PC release on Steam.  Who the fuck don't have a computer, and just about any damned computer can run a J-game.

Not so much with Falcom [and Japan] but I know what you mean.

I'd take it over not getting the series.  I think circulation would work in XSeed's favor as well.

It only seems wrong when it isn't the native platform. Then there's the Last Remnant, but that's a special case.

I think he was referring to the fact that roughly 99% of all PC software from Japan is porn, nevermind JRPGs in particular.

I +1 the idea of Steam release. Steam as done wonderful things for a lot of niche games and I'm sure it could help JRPGs a lot.
Just look at Recettear. Steam sold that game like hotcakes.

I think the Trails barrier is the massive amount of text.  Probably wouldn't change much :(

I don't care about the new Trails, at all.  Not at least until we get SC.  And we still have Zero and Blue, so it's kind of hard to be interested unless they skip Zero & Blue which I really don't want them to do.
