Weird topic to bring up but I thought it might spark a bit of nostalgia (or awareness of prodigality) in you guys and gals.

My first ebay purchase wasn't intentional...I was messing around with an ebayer who really wanted a copy of Thousand Arms for the Playstation. I've always wanted to give it a try but had no intention on buying it. I saw a copy of it for 15 (starting bid) and bid on it out of boredom. I noticed someone else wanted it (a lot more than I) and posted .50 over my bid. This continued until I stopped at around $20 (I forget the actual price) when I pretended to not show interest and stop bidding...and at this time I knew this guy, or girl, had bid that .50 cent over me. Knowing myself and other ebayers, I was very aware that they would have added more than just that .50 cents to secure their bid...so at the last 5 seconds of the bid I dropped a 1.50 (something like that) over and won. Needless to say I got myself a copy of Thousand Arms not because I really wanted it...just because I wanted to test how far a buyer would go to achieve their coveted game.

I do not own the game any more, in fact I sold it to one of the members of this board, but now you know the story of my first ebay transaction and the story of how I achieved that game.

Was your first ebay purchase as much an unnecessary war as mine? ;)

Crikey, I don't even remember.  I started ebaying before Paypal was a thing.  Had to send the seller your money order in the mail and they would wait until they got it before shipping!  Uphill both ways.  In the snow.

Get off my lawn you damn kids! ;)

I bought the most expensive expansion pack ever:

Sid Meier's Alien Crossfire

For whatever reason, the expansion pack to Alpha Centauri had a very small run and copies were going for $60-70.  I got mine for $45 and I counted my blessings.

My dad collects Civil War memorabilia.  I bought him a Confederate cavalry officer's sword replica.  He liked it.

Probably the most boring story I've ever told here. :P

Probably Phantasy Star 4. I bought a Genesis from value city about a week after ordering it. PS4 was 30-some dollars. The Genesis was 15.

Other possibility was Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries. Both were when I was in 7th grade (2000/2001), but I don't remember exactly which.

Other stuff. Hopefully this is exhaustive.

2008 - Quest for Glory 4. Possibly my nauga doll. Not sure if that was actually from eBay. Think it was.
2006 - SimCity 4: Rush Hour
2005 - Albion + 4 other PC games
2005 - Albion (but the seller died of diabetes before he could ship it. Payment never went through at least).
2005 - Terranigma JP, Innocent Sin
2004 - SMT1 and 2, Romancing SaGa 1 I think. Also possibly some Gackt CD. Wizardry Archives.
2003 - Devil Children series.
2001/2002 - Daggerfall, Romancing Saga 3, Seiken Densetsu 3

Fuck I need more Nauga dolls.

Went browsing for some jewellry online and made something like 20+ $5 bids on good quality stuff. Only one didn't get additional bids and I won a pretty ruby and silver necklace. Since then, I've bought several dozen pretty jewels online. :)

I want to say I did this too, but I stupidly mailed personal checks instead. Never had any problems too.

It wasn't my first eBay purchase, but it was my most memorable one.  It was September 10 2001, I'd just barely moved into my NYU campus apartment and decided to trawl the Internet.  I snagged a copy of Chrono Trigger for SNES for $50 (totally worth it) on Ebay.  I was to mail my check out the next day, but 9/11 hit and since I was in lower Manhattan, we were under lockdown for a while.  The seller was forgiving that it took me longer than usual to send my check and make contact to say what was happening.  I cherish that copy of Chrono Trigger.

My first and only ebay purchase was a Sega Saturn, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Shining Force III, and Dragon Force.

Idiot had it tagged for buy it now for $100. How that wasnt snatched up before I came across it is beyond me.

It all worked great too!
