Pink Floyd + 2001 = OMFGWTF

We all know the old college campus tale of Dark Side of the Moon synching up with The Wizard of Oz if you start the album at a certain point during a certain alignment of the stars while standing on a certain leg while chanting a certain prayer to a certain deity while consuming certain drugs.  I tried it once upon a time and found it to be bullshit.

THIS, however, is pretty fucking eerie at times.

Behold, the last 25 minutes of 2001:  A Space Odyssey, accompanied by the tune "Echoes".

Most of the changes in music are accompanied by a suitable shift in scene.  It's bizzare how well they go together, and I'm not even high. :P

Note that there are three parts. :P

It certainly sounds a bit more likely than the Wizard of Oz thing.

EDIT: Just watched all three parts, and have to say that that is pretty damn good. They synch up really well 90% of the time. In the final part, at the very end, when we see the baby, it synchs perfectly.

Further proof that 2001 is the best sci-fi film ever, and that Echoes is one of the best songs ever.

Pink Floyd was considered for doing the music 2001, and they turned it down. Pretty sure Waters still regrets that. Anyway, it's certainly possible that Echoes was written about 2001, or that it was produced to be their own sort of soundtrack-in-reverse, if you will :P

The DSOTM synch breaks down completely around money anyway

I also read that Kubrick asked for the rights to use Atom Heart Mother for the A Clockwork Orange soundtrack, but they turned him down. If true, it's pretty odd that they'd turn him down twice.

maybe it was A Clockwork Orange they turned down, and not 2001. Either way, same basic idea holds true, I guess
