I didn't see a thread on this post yet, so I make it.

http://www.rpgfan.com/features/Most_Anticipated_Games_2012/index.html

It's pretty exhaustive from my perspective, minus one notable game: Good People Die (999 Sequel) should be a no-brainer for "localization hopefuls"

For me it's

Devil Survivor 2
Xenoblade
Ni No Kuni
FF Type 0
Last Story
Pandora's Tower
The Witcher 2 (not on the list?)

The last two I'll likely be importing

Non RPG wise

Bioshock Infinite
Binary Domain

I'm probably forgetting some

RPGs:

Final Fantasy XIII-2
Final Fantasy Type-0

Non-RPG:

Tomb Raider
Armored Core V (very interested in this one, but dunno if I will be able to buy it)
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (maybe)

I would put The Last of Us and Final Fantasy Versus XIII too but I'm not sure when they are coming out. I also have a few other games I haven't been able to buy, but I'm good with the few ones I'm interested right now.

Having too many games to play drives me nuts anyway.

I wish they would stop releasing all these new games so I can find the time to play my old games...

OK, seriously though here is what I expect to get:

RPGs:
Kingdoms of Amalur
Final Fantasy Type-0
Tales of Graces f
Ni no Kuni
Atelier Meruru
Grand Knights History
Gungnir
Growlanser IV
Black Rock Shooter
Shining Blade (import, I don't expect it to be localized ever)
Xenoblade and a Wii to play it on...I said I would buy a Wii if they released that game here so I would be a liar if I didn't follow through.

Non-RPGs:
Gravity Daze and a Vita to play it on...
If I get that Vita I'll probably get Uncharted: Golden Abyss too

Funny how my list is dominated by PSP games...even though all the big game sites seem to think it's a completely dead platform.

Man, I need to buy two new game systems...hopefully I can find a used Wii for cheap or something.

I am going to preface this statement with. I love this site. But I was very angry with 1 single sentence in this article. I even emailed the staff about it because it really did bother me, I am not trolling. I will repeat that email in its entirety

Here goes:

I am a little pissed at this statement

http://www.rpgfan.com/features/Most_Anticipated_Games_2012/index.html

While referring to Japanese rpgs “In an era of decline for the genre”

How can you say that when most of the article is Japanese rpgs?

The genre has done the opposite of decline. Its thrived.

More Japanese rpgs are being made than ever, more are being localized, at the same high quality

Hell you didn’t even mention agarest 2, gungir, growlanser 4, suikoden, shining, paper Mario, or any number of 50 japanese rpgs coming out in 2012 in all regions on all systems.

Alright.... whattya got...

Quote
agarest 2,

LOL!

Quote
gungir, growlanser 4,

I'll give you that...

Quote
suikoden,

Spin-off Suikoden?  Spin-offs, not even by necessity for being spin-offs, are usually gonna have a star knocked off right off the bat.  Guaranteed we won't see Yuber once again either.

Quote
shining,

LOL!

Quote
paper Mario,

LOL!! Literally.. they are pretty funny titles.  THey haven't released much info on this one... hard to anticipate much.

Not *that* many.  The site is right though, even if there are a lot of JRPGs, quantity doesn't mean quality.  And quite frankly, I can live and easily ignore the next 10 ports of Disgaea that are probably on the back-burner.  RPG-developer Tri-ACE's latest game sold under 20k units and they're no stranger to the gaming world.

First of all lo'ing doesnt add validity to your statements

agarest 2 was good enough and is pretty popular in the states.

Who cares if suikoden is a spinoff..........most games these days are sequels, spinoffs or gaidens. The game appears fantastic.

You do realize alot of the games they did list were such

A new shining srpg is getting alot of people pumped

Your right there arent 50..............there might be 60, including titles we no are in dev but havent been announced yet.

The site is not right on this point. Like I said I love the site, but I disagreed.

Thats the thing, theres quality and quantity

"And quite frankly, I can live and easily ignore the next 10 ports of Disgaea that are probably on the back-burner.:

On most days I would agree with you. BUT.

The port of disgaea 3 puts most goty editions to shame in terms of new content added. Its staggering.

Also nis japan is developing at least 3 new rpgs right now so I can give them a pass for 1 port

"RPG-developer Tri-ACE's latest game sold under 20k units and they're no stranger to the gaming world."

Now your the one being ridiculous, equating sales to quality. It doesnt work like that.

I have imported the dungeon crawler, I dont have it yet but friends of mine in japan think its a pretty good early rpg title for the 3ds, a system that will be flooded with them before long

Like I said before, I love this site, but that doesnt mean you cant disagree.

Can you post your impressions of both games on the Vita thread later when you get them please?

I was somewhat anticipating Neptunia MK2 until they released the interview a few days ago pretty much stating the only reason they're introducing new protagonists is they were wanting to invoke the 'moe younger sister effect'. ~.~;

Presently I really don't have anything to look forward to this year except Pathfinder RPG's Advanced Race Guide. EEA would count except I'm not shelling out for a 3DS just for a single game.

Fair enough.  But as a gurrrl, I'm not partial to hokey romances between J-broads.  Ridiculous combat aside, I've also outgrown this kind of shit as well.  Unless you're a big anime fan.... yeah, pass.

Sequels and spinoffs are different things, mate.

Where are all these people?  I didn't realize that many vocal fans existed.
I'm sure this is great for importers, but the passed two haven't even gotten a release States-side, have they?

Well fuck... Final Fantasy 17 is going to be anticipated too!!! ...one day! :D
Ooo it's there though.

Sales matter when it comes to localization, sir.

As for NIS RPGs, yay we get some slap-stick humour and Harada.
Even a new Neptunia game...  It just doesn't feel like JRPGs (the hardcore, anime, bubbly characters and all that) really try too hard anymore.

I'm worried about Grand Knight History.  XSeed is horrible at marketing their wares, and sometimes it's unfortunate since they put out some amazing stuff.  But given the mass online play support this game asks, and the people left who still play a PSP... I can't see this being a gigantic hit in the US played by the masses.  My faith is going to Vanillaware's Dragon's Crown.

Sigh.......now I have to respond to all these quotes.

I am a big srpg fan. Thats what its about a great srpg

sequels, spinoffs are basically the same when you get right down too it. But it doesnt matter to me

The same people who got shining force feathers made..............This is basically a love letter to fans as its pure srpg gold.

Alot of games dont get localized. Even past gens square has been a bitch about it. Thats the way it goes sometimes.

Its not like all shining forces get localized as about 1/3 have

I mean let me give you a taste

3 nis japan rpgs, at least 7 namco rpgs ( tales R, the tales psp action rpg, .hack, digimon, 3 super robot wars at least, and maybe more) at least 7 square rpgs (dq monsters 1 remake, bravely default, ddd, ff versus, lord of arcana sequelm more un announced stuff........thats 17 and I only listed 3 companies..............

"Sales matter when it comes to localization, sir."

its one piece of the puzzle

"As for NIS RPGs, yay we get some slap-stick humour and Harada.
Even a new Neptunia game...  It just doesn't feel like JRPGs (the hardcore, anime, bubbly characters and all that) really try too hard anymore."

I hated neptunia, but even I see thats just 1 game out of many

The game has a fleshed out single player story. You dont need to go online.

dragon crown seems liek a good action rpg from them

...Christ, is that the female Shepard that won that big vote Bioware put on a few months ago?  Looks hideous.

Anyway, I tend to keep my expectations low when it comes to gaming, so I wouldn't say I'm "anticipating" a whole lot.  Mass Effect 3 and Guild Wars 2 are it as far as RPGs go, and Bioshock Infinite makes a grand total of three. :P
