The history of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is now so complicated that every time I tell it I contradict myself, and whenever I do get it right I'm misquoted. So the publication of this omnibus edition seemed like a good opportunity to set the record straight--or at least firmly crooked.

As the title suggests, I've been gone for about 2 years... in that span of time I've managed to play 1 RPG (Mass Effect 2), despite having a huge affinity for RPG's and being addicted to them a couple years ago. I moved on to other things, but I'm starting to feel that itch for an RPG (and video games in general seeing as I played maybe 3-4 in the past 2 years) again. I haven't kept up on ANYTHING, so I honestly have no idea what has been released the past 2 years and what is coming up. Anyone want to fill me in on what's been great the past few years and what I should look out for coming up? I obviously looked at the MAG 2012 feature, but it's not everything.

Demon's Souls is my singular best RPG in the last few years.

Dragon Age series for the characters / dialogue

Mass Effect for the story, music, characters, and sexy broads in tight fitting space jumpers.

I've started Deus Ex and Nier and enjoyed what i've seen so far, but haven't finished due to splurging on game sales.

Demon's Souls is the first one right? If so I've played it, but I know there is a second one that came out. Seems a little too much for me when I'm just getting back into it :P I have played the first Dragon Age and even reviewed it for the site, but I heard the second was kind of disappointing. I've played the Mass Effect series up to this point.

Actually just been working, almost engaged now (March I'll be asking) and Yugioh competitively. Not much time for games and I'll be going back to school sometime next year I think. I also have no idea why my gamer card is dead lol.

Demon's is the first one.

My thoughts on DA2: stick w/ the critical story path and some of the bigger side quests for companions. It's only when you "do everything" are you really exposed to the corner cutting and overuse of the same cave, warehouse, mansion, etc.

I think the main story, characters, and presentation warrant a look, especially when the game has to be like $20 or less now. It's not for everyone though.

Xenoblade's my personal favorite for the last two years. I imported from Europe, but it's being released stateside next month. If you have an ich for an actually GOOD japanese-style RPG (rare these days), you can't get any better.

The Wii is the only current system I don't have :( No plans to buy one since the Wii-U (spelling?) is on the horizon.

Completely understandable. Well, get it once you have a Wii-U, then.

Sounds good, I honestly haven't read up on the new system so I didn't know if it was going to be backwards compatible.

Does anyone even know what the Wii-U is? I mean, last time they showed the thing Nintendo left people confused more than anything else.

I for one I'm intriged to know a bit more about it and hopefully they change the name of the console in the process. To this day hearing people saying "Wii" is a bit awkward. But the name of the console is way too popular today to left the "Wii" thing go away anyway.

After all, the last handheld from Nintendo is called 3DS. Way to confused your consumers... sometimes I wonder how people that is not into video games can get a clue at all the stuff that is sold to them with funny names.

There's a chance they'll rename it.

Blace! Long time no see.

I was going to suggest Xenoblade, but since you're waiting for the Wii-U maybe I can suggest some portable games? Radiant Historia and Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling together are pretty damn amazing.

I think that's wishful thinking. Nintendo formally christained the console last E3. Nintendo has never gone back on a console name after it has been formally announced. Not to mention, there's no reason to, the name has not been met with critical disapproval. In fact, the response has been much more neutral than that of the "Vita". I don't think there's any reason to believe it will be named anything different. Now, they did say that the LOOK of it will likely be different then the prototype they demoed, maybe you're confusing those things.

It's currently scheduled for release in Q2-Q3, which means April - September. Original figures suggested closer to April, but the fact that we've heard so little makes me think that we'll probably see it towards the end of that window.

After all, the last handheld from Nintendo is called 3DS. Way to confused your consumers... sometimes I wonder how people that is not into video games can get a clue at all the stuff that is sold to them with funny names.
How is 3DS confusing? it's a 3D, Dual Screen system, makes sense to me. This is seriously the first time I've ever heard anyone say they were confused about the naming. And even if you do live in a hole and don't understand what the name means... how many thousands of best selling products from Cars to Laundry Detergents are named things like "XT-3025", and have no trouble generating sales. In comparison of a lot of branding "3DS" is pretty simple, and makes complete sense if you take half a second to think about it. "Wii-U", maybe a little less so, but Nintendo is going for cute, and "Wii-U" is kinda cute.

Public outcry against the name "Wii" has probably never been worse, yet it's the best selling console of the generation, adding a "U" onto the end of it isn't going to cause mass confusion.
