You're just being cryptic again. It's like soap opera sex. Lots of boring dialogue and when they finally do go to bed, everything's dark and covered by blankets.

I didn't actually own my own copy until last year. I've never finished it.

I always get bored after the first disc, though the first disc is fantastic.

I definitely saw all the 16-bit FF's before VII, but VII was the first I ever owned, and the first I dove into. I really, really love this title and it still stands as one of my faves, up there with FFT, FFIX and V.

I know it's been overhyped and overpimped, but I still think it's a solid installment in the franchise, and any FF fan should probably give it a go.

I don't feel overly old, but it's still amazing that 15 years have blown by since those first epic commercials hit our airwaves.

but Final Fantasy VII did open the floodgates for more prolific console JRPG releases outside of Japan

I don't buy it. I think FF6 secured that. FF6 was huge, much bigger than FF4. It got people's attention enough that any game made after that would have gotten an american release. It was the first time I remember seeing commercials for an RPG on television. I'd like to see the numbers, but my guess is the jump in popularity between FF4 and FF6 was probably similar to that of FF6 and FF7.

FF6 certainly did something, but I think the effect was more pronounced with FF7.  You'll hear enough people who missed out on the SNES to get FF7 on the [then] new PSX.

I was still kid when FFVII came out and I don't have memories from '97 (not to mention that I was not into video games yet), but I imagine the effect of people opening their eyes seeing how good the game looks must have been the same as it was with FFX.

Man, the first minutes of FFX are probably the best I've seen in a JRPG.

If you want to put it that way, Prime Mover, then FF6 was Mudhoney and FF7 was Nirvana.

The worldwide sales numbers for VII are about triple those of VI, and it's not like that there were lots of US releases that followed FFVI - most of the high-profile SNES RPGs stayed in Japan - Seiken Densetsu 3, Tales of Phantasia, Star Ocean and Dragon Quest VI. Post-VII nearly everything made it into English, regardless of whether it was any good or not.

And there's also the important point that it was the first Final Fantasy to be released in Europe. Before FFVII Square didn't even have a European division, and even if a RPG was released in the US it rarely made it over here. We still missed out on plenty in the Playstation days, but far less than the SNES.

I remember when it came out I was blown away by the graphics, just popped it in again for old time's sake and IMO it has not held up well over the years, and yes I realize how far video graphics have come but even with that it still looks "dated" to me. And to be honest I don't actually remember a lot of the game, lol, too long ago and I know I never finished it. Still, it's historical importance would certainly be hard to deny.

VII was the first game I played where anyone said swear words. I still remember the first time my mom came in my room with one of Barret's usual foul mouth rants going. She nearly freaked out. Ahh, good times, back when family values meant something and ass cracks were strictly porno and handyman only.

Wonder if I can still find that nude tifa mod for vii on pc?

That would make "Dolphin Blow" an unfortunately named special attack.

As for Crazy Motorcycle, that was a pretty sweet piece of music.  And although that sequence had a major "Cool!" factor, I have to admit that it did feel shoehorned in there when I played the game a second time.  Where and how did Cloud find a motorcycle to ride down the stairs on?  And the baby truck... isn't that cute BUT IT'S WRONG!  Still a really fun sequence, though, and one I kept a save before mainly for the music and the fact that it was a cool cutscene.

Some of my favorite events occur after disc 1, namely the Weapon assaults, the Lucrecia flashbacks, and pretty much everything with Hojo.
