http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2012/1127.html

As you guys may have seen, our illustrious Editor in Chief of many years has officially stepped aside today. I just wanted to personally thank Eric for all the years I enjoyed as a reader and the time I've enjoyed so far as an Editor. We've got a fantastic new EiC with John stepping in and there are definitely great times to come, but anyone who has enjoyed the site for these past several years should be appreciative of Eric's efforts.

Thanks for everything Eric!

12 years is a while.  Great work Eric.  This place has been a great hub for fans, and for the forum-tards who just love chatting it up under some common interests. :)

I speak for most of us, I think, when I say: We love you! ♥

Thanks very much for all the wonderful work you've done on this great website. It's one of the very few I come back to, time after time. Fab work these many years!

Thanks to Eric for sticking with things for so long and good luck to John!

Wait - doesn't John hate RPGs?

It's funny because I was under the impression that this happened months ago. *shrugs*
Regardless, I've been around this place a VERY long time, and have always appreciated all the work it takes to keep it all running smoothly. Thanks to Eric, John, and EVERYONE who keeps the Fan going strong.

Eric Farand is a hell of a guy. One time (actually, about eight times) I butted heads with him pretty hard. The scene routinely played out like in any-old-RPG where the lesser villain (me) is defeated by the graceful hero (Eric), and I'm like "fine, just kill me." But then Eric spares me and I re-join his party. And I level up even after losing.

And that's why the RPGFan Soundtracks section never stopped being awesome.

Also the site is in super-good hands with John McCarroll. Eric was wise to choose this year (instead of say, 2009 or 2015) to drop his EiC role. But, like me, he'll be sticking around in an advisor/consultant capacity. It's the BEST! It's like being a grandparent, all the fun with minimal responsibility.

Woot!

Thanks everybody for the kind words and thanks Pat.  You give me too much credit.  I always "spared" you as you said because you have a rare quality of being able to admit when you make a mistake instead of being stubborn like so many people are in this world.  I always had a big amount of respect for you and all the work you've done at RPGFan over the years so any head-butting we had was never personal.

And you're right about this being the right time to drop my EiC role.  It's one of the reason why I was finally able to do it.  John was clearly ready to take over and accept this new responsibility which is something he may not have been ready for years ago.  So, this was the perfect time as he's clearly a better choice than me at this point in time.  Hanging on to the position would not be in the best interest of RPGFan and I'm happy to be able to get more time for myself so it's the perfect situation!
