Oh lord that cootchie cootchie skit was awesome. I love Jade.

Karol just gets my love because of Yuri's 'Aaah, Eggbear!' line. Actually, forget Karol. Yuri was the best part of that game.

Any Symphonia love out there? Lloyd was too adorkable to hate, though Colette was too Mary Sueish. Though I think  that was kind of the point - she was a deconstruction of the trope.

Rita was a fucking terrible character. Her entire spiel consisted of whining about Blastia and being disproportionately violent towards other people.

I dunno, I was kinda like that at her age, just a lot less brilliant (though my PS2 fixing skills were much appreciated). The whole teenage genius thing is a cliché, but I don't think she was a bad character.

I thought Raven could have been handled better as well.  He was good, but could have been milked for a few chuckles more (loved the skit that shows his reaction to Judith in a bathing suit).

I'm actually glad they didn't go too far with the whole token pervert thing. He's a nice guy... which is probably why he doesn't have much experience (according to Judith).

Anyone remember what the point of Duke or the Adaphagos was?
Yeah... me neither.

It felt like the writers took a break to binge play Lunar Silver Star Story before they got to the final third of the game, and then just... well... that happened.

I've never been a fan of Colette, but that may be because of when and how I played the game. I played the game entirely with my boyfriend. He played Lloyd and the original plan was for me to play Colette. I gave up after three battles and switched to Genis. Not long after finishing the game I came to the awkward realisation we were more like friends than a couple.

Anyway, there's another reason I'm not a big fan of the Symphonia cast. Many of them have personality that's a simply too much. Characters in later games are more rounded.

So, over the long weekend I:
- Finished the main story
- Finished the F story
- Entered Zhonecage and got my ass handed to me on floor 2

I restarted another game with the grade shop bonus and things are A LOT easier. I'm already about 1/3 done of the main arc at ~9 hour and I've been playing on evil difficulty even for the bosses.
Pumping just 1200 or so grade into the game made it incredibly more fun. I'd recommend it if you're pushing further and getting your ass kicked.

(I think I'm terrible at this game for some reason... that or not using the crafting system at all in my first game doomed me.)
(The Eleth mixer is one of the best gameplay element I've ever seen in a Tales game.)

It was this. Early game the Eleth Mixer is your only leg to stand on against certain bosses. The specific food you need for each encounter can usually be crafted just before it's needed.

Tip: Don't bother with Inherit Skills.  It's too expensive and relatively pointless.  Get the mastery SP option and the 2x SP option.  Then, on your new game, the first titles you should work on are the ones that give stat bonuses when you level up (Asbel has five of these, I believe, other characters have three or so).

If you don't have the 100-Combo hit titles for your characters, don't bother with the DamagexX, modifiers either, as you can screw yourself over with even the strongest enemies dying too quickly.

I ended up with some 2200 Grade after my first game.  3,000 or so after my second (Chaos).

Oh man.  I've had enough trouble with some bosses on a normal play through (I honestly suck at games during the school year).  Doubt chaos would go well. xD
I'm looking forward to raping it like that soon though, thanks for the tips.

I was the same Dice. Go New Game+
Evil is actually pretty easy with the grade bonus.

A bit too pricey for my tastes, unfortunately.

I love/hate that they add stats boosts technically.
Kinda weird to pay $4 for outfits that have like...a tenth of the detail the FF13-2 ones do (and those are a buck cheaper).  I will say Pascal's Harold outfit is a HELLUVA lot better than her default one (which is some colourful kaleidoscope of ugly).  Cheria got Natalia... seems like they enjoy dressing the girl up in light blue, it's the 3rd outfit to do so.

That's my biggest problem with it.
I mean, if you buy every single (US available) DLC outfit, you get 60 P.Atk and 700 HP for Asbel.
It just seems weird to give people slightly more power for buying a costume =/
You can probably get even more stats on the JP version which has a ton more costumes.

Also, Namco is pretty stupid. I'm sure they'd make way more money selling costumes:
- 0.99$ a piece, or
- 4.50$ for a full set (those 6-7 characters themed set)

At that price-set, I would give them like 10$.

I will say Pascal's Harold outfit is a HELLUVA lot better than her default one

I switched to the "Free Spirit" title and it looks really good on her.

I can't say much for her character, but I thought she had the best extra costumes of the bunch =P

Can't you just turn down the difficulty?  Sounds like a wuss way to do it, but probably what I'll do considering it's just extra post-game content.

I couldn't agree more.  Individually, $3.99 for a single costume is ridiculous.  It's a terrible waste of money.  Capcom isn't even that bad.  I get that they claim Tales doesn't bring in enough cash to really focus on bringing the titles over to US & Canada faster and DLC is a way that could potentially make it more worth their while, but the cost of the costumes is going to turn away many people who might otherwise buy a few.  If, like you said, they bundled them together based on a theme and charged a reasonable amount of money, I'd buy a pack.  As it stands now, I wouldn't even consider it.

You guys should just be glad you don't play Idolm@ster.  The DLC pricing there makes this stuff look like a bargain.

Namco Bandai is probably one of the worst offenders there is, DLC-wise.  I think they're much worse about it than Capcom.  I guess you don't hear much about it in the states because so many of their games either don't make it here at all or are pretty niche when they do.

I play it, but I haven't bought any DLC. :P
