Spotlight Albums Discussion

With the new spotlight posted on 4 Heroes of Light, I wanted to try a little something new! Let's talk about the spotlighted album!

Anyone else have any experience or thoughts about with/about this album? I'm a huge Naoshi Mizuta fan and found it to be pretty different from his normal stuff, but I haven't gotten to do more than a quick listen through the album.

I love the combination between the chippy sounds and the more "modern" elements. The second track in particular has a completely awesome melody that gets woven in and out through the chippy stuff. Makes me want to play this game.

I have high hopes, since his tracks on XIII-2 were by far my favorite(Run and Plains of Eternity among them).

Reminds me of the Symphonic Suite albums of Dragon Quest. Slow and relaxing.

I've never been able to get into the music from DQ. Do you have any recommendations :D?

And yeah, I loved his tracks on XIII-2. And every single track from FFXI. I'm a big Mizuta fan-- although I still haven't had a chance to personally check out Blood of Bahamut.

Try the Symphonic Suites albums. If that doesn't grab your attention, then nothing will do it really.

To me, much of Dragon Quest's music doesn't really stand on its own out of the game. I'd compare Sugiyama to Jeremy Soule in that regard.

In-game it's usually very pleasant to listen to, mood fitting, and whatnot, but most of the time I just can't remember the songs, a few exceptions, of course.
For example, this song literally embodies Dragon Quest VII, despite none of the songs being particularly memorable on their own.

For the most part, I find Sugiyama's boss and enemy themes to be drastically lacking, where field and town themes are far superior.  The only boss theme I'm really fond of from Dragon Quest is IV's Estark battle, which hits all of the right battle theme notes for me.
