Fandom & Outrage; the lethal backlash effect

The only thing I think has actually changed is the immediacy of reactions. There were plenty of people that initially raged at FF7's ending, at least among my friends at that time, but there wasn't this massive run to the internet to confirm/validate their opinions. Then time passed and everybody cooled off and started to appreciate things.

If anything I'd guess that humanity hasn't really changed in any way and this generation isn't that much different in their behavior than the last one. The difference is that we now have the internet to go get any of our opinions validated for us, no matter how wrong headed they may be.
