With the availability of cheap games and accessible game sales I'm sure I'm not the only one with a mountain of games yet unplayed. Thanks to amazon's tendency to have games marked down as much as 30 bux w/in months of release, and gamestop coupons I have a yeoman's work ahead of me.
Here's my current gen backlog
360:
dead island
deadly premonition
bulletstorm
Bioshock 1 and 2
Dead Space 2
Call of Duty World at War
Saints Row 3rd
Rayman: O
Infinite Undiscovery
Mirrors Edge
Nier
Ass Creed 2
Gears of War 2
Witcher 2
PS3
Dead Rising 2
Infamous
El Shaddai (on last boss, it pissed me off so I ragequit, might see if I can bump it to easy to see what kind of nonsense ending they have)
Folklore
Darksiders
Hunted
Dark Souls
LoTR: War in da Nort
Vanquish
Two Worlds 2
Graces
Uncharted 2: Electric Sploojaloo
Deus: Ex
Even though that looks ridiculous I'm still sitting on a 50% completion rate for current gen (not handhelds).
I hould have amalur wrapped up this weekend. I want to max out my levels

I used to have a huge backlog, but somehow I managed to curb the bad habit of buying games that I had no intention of playing immediately - I stopped stockpiling games and played the ones I bought. I'm down to about 15 or so older games (either very old PC games or from previous generations of consoles) and the only newish stuff I have left is Assassin's Creed Revelations and Warp, both of which I bought last week, and all the Fallout 3 DLC. It does mean I have much less choice as to what to play now, but at least I don't feel like I'm buying games just for the sake of it.

Yeah, I stopped buying games when I already have one to play. My backlog is tiny.
Still playing ME3
Xenoblade
Ys 7
FF XIII(which I'll probably never play)
and that's it.
There are games I want to play that are already out, like Wither 2 and Amular. I just haven't bought them yet because they would just sit here for months. Might as well wait until they're cheaper.

That's the way to do it. You either enjoy. Game enough to finish it or you don't. And I don't see the point of keeping games around that you don't finish.

Most of the games in which I have interest are massively out of print and I tend to just buy whatever I see when I see it because otherwise I might never see it again.
Or I get stuck in a hotel in michigan for like a month and a half and I have nothing else to do except buy all the PSX games ever.
My life is a spiraling void !!

I have to stop shopping for games every weekend, I have that many because I like to spend time on games I enjoy, or maybe I just suck. For the 360 I have 4 piles of next in lines, some with theories:
Silent Hill HD collection (next in line)
Dungeon Seige 3
Res Evil ORC (might scrap this)
Duke Nukem
Earth Defense force (half played)
Tomb raider, all current gen releases
Borderlands GOTY
Resident Evil 5 (bought new)
Tont Hawk Project 8
Homefront
Medal of honor Limited ed
Red Dead Redemption (bought new)
GTA4: LOTD (bought new)
Saints Row 1 and 2
Ass Creed 1 and 2
Fear 2
Command and Conquer 3 tiberian wars
Red Alert 3
Quake 4 (bought new)
Dead Island
Blue dragon
I'm sure there is allot more, I have 86 PS3 games and have only played about 5, Yakuza 3 and 4, Wots 3, fallout 3 and SH homecoming. I know I have 86 because I counted the stack last night for some reason
Good thread Yoda, Not about bragging but game management of which I am hopeless

On another forum I've been taking part in a thread similar to this one, writing a new review in a blog every time I complete a new game and keeping a running total of completed games vs. purchases. Here's the backlog half of how it breaks down:
Current Backlog
Mass Effect
Grandia II
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Red Dead Redemption
Star Ocean: Second Evolution
---
3D Dot Game Heroes
Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana
Darksiders
Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue
Demon's Souls
Final Fantasy XII
Okami
Persona 3: FES
Rogue Galaxy
Valkyria Chronicles
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Early in the year I picked 16 games from my backlog (which probably numbers at least 30 in total) and pledged to conquer them. Every time I finish one, I write a new review in my blog. I've only completed 3 games, so I'm a little behind (I blame Mass Effect 2+3)

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Peace Walker from the MGS HD Collection along with Skullgirls.
Outside of that there's DLC stuff and trophies for other games that I want to get later. Not much, but is more than enough.

I have no game backlog. I just have a current game and future games. I buy a game and beat it, then buy a new one. Next up is still xenoblade, currently playing Tales of the Abyss.

I understand where you both are coming from, but that's not how every gamer thinks. I'll sometimes buy games that I know I'll want to play, but then real life happens and gets in the way. Or I'll buy a game that's on sale despite playing something else, or thinking more as a game collector instead of a game player, or any other reason that prevents me from playing a game. I don't think I'm in a minority when I say that at least 30% of the games I own haven't been finished.
Keeping a detailed backlog (which I've done since 2010, and have been blogging about since 2011) motivates me to finish games. I'm less likely to put down a game indefinitely or switch up when something new comes out, because I'm writing about it and don't want to leave that door open. It's helped me cut into my collection of unfinished games in a big way.
