"Palutena Alights" intro trailer (with strong hinting of Dark Pitt, IMO...but I mean, Melee proved re-skinning isn't a "bad idea" for the Smash series at all).

Code:
Eww, that anime cutscene wasn't...terribly nice to look at, compared to the gameplay models especially

The order was wrong and I did not account for Miis to be announced (although, it was a safe bet whichever way you sliced it), but so far my theory holds on.

Smash Edit: So Zero Suit Samus took home the tournament trophy and Fox took the fan favorite trophy. There was unfortunately no new news about the game dropped during the event.

Pacman also confirmed during the roundtable as well as Game and Watch returning. That leak I read about on gematsu still hasn't been wrong yet!

Happy to see my boy Pac-Man in Smash. :)

Of all the classic game characters from the 80s, he's my personal favorite.

Well there goes my theory. >:(

At least I did call it back in April (and actually, I've hit two for three on that call thus far).

Also, yay! Mr. Game and Watch is back.

So I got a chance to get some hands on time with the game, and I've got to say, I had a bit of fun with Smash Run (even if I just kept coming up in the same spot). It looked like there was a cap on loot acquired during a single Smash Run, and Speed and Jump stats cap out at 1000 (I ended up getting an event that turned my Samus into an orange blur). I ended up using Samus, Zero Suit Samus, Greninja, Megaman, Marth, Kirby, Wii Fit Trainer, Donkey Kong, and Zelda during this run and here are my thoughts.

Samus did indeed get a noticeable buff finally, Zero Suit was fun but I had a hard time closing with her, Greninja was just sick nasty in the air or with his Side-B, I don't know if it was meant to be a humorous reference to MM2 or just the way things ended up but Megaman's P-Shooter shot is Forward-A with Metal Blade being Neutral-A, Marth felt a little less OP'd than he did in Brawl but otherwise he's the same, I couldn't get Kirby to work for me, Wii Fit was excellent for haymaking in general, Donkey Kong seemed to have a slightly better air game than before but I kinda got worked over before I could really sink my teeth into him, and same for Zelda though her point attacks seemed to be easier to land but her Din's Fire and Nayru's Love got debuffed slightly. I was able to land Final Smashes with Greninja and Kirby (though it took a lot of set up).

^ Thank you so much for this --- I'm feeling dicky for not noticing this post sooner

I'm glad Samus got a bit of a buff.  She was definitely the one *I* had trouble closing with in the previous two titles; but otherwise WiiFit trainer is the one I'm most curious to use [of the newcomers]. :P
Definitely hope to see some balancing in this title.

Hell, even Assphy Shulk would be interesting to see just to see how they'd handle his Vision Tag ability. Would it count down to a big attack targeting a particular player? Would players be able to determine who takes the hit based upon what they do during the countdown timer? Will Shulk mix it up with his bigass fuckoff beamsword in the meanwhile?

So apparently, the new character was Captain Falcon.

Code:
Also Lucina, and both versions of the The Avatar made it in as well, VAs and all (and Chrom kinda).

Now with links.

Actually, after rewatching that video, it looks like Lucina is going to be Marth clone much like Pichu, Dr. Mario, and Falco were (and Chrom may be to Ike if he's an actual separate character instead of being a part of The Avatar's final smash). The Avatar looks to be the only wholly new character announced.

Still that's a hell of a deal (and explains the Arena Ferox 3DS stage), especially since The Avatar looks like s/he might be fun to play as (though hopefully his/her calling out spell names won't be too grating or can be turned off; plus I am disappoint that s/he isn't whipping out any of the Legendary spells like Excalibur, Forseti, Valflame, Mjolnir, Goetia, or Book of Naga).

----
There's one thing that's been bothering me since the official site first went up, and has finally become relevant, was that prior to today's update, at the bottom of any given character's page was a bar that scrolled horizontally and provided direct links to the respective character's page represented by said character's portrait. What I had noticed about this bar was that the number of available panels never changed and always maintained a fixed number of available slots as it were. And with today's announcement, that bar is now completely full. If I'm correct, then there will be no Antony/Issac/Ghirahim/etc. showing up down the road and any other returning characters will be hidden unlockables (like Ganondorf, Falco, Ness, and so on). That is not to say that there aren't any new hidden characters, but I don't think it will be possible to know prior to the 3DS version's release.

Probably a trophy. :(

Seriously hoping a few more surprises will be put in here.

And yay for more FE representation (I'll always mourn the loss of Roy though; he was my boy), and yeah, hopefully Shulk will be there eventually (hell, Xenoblade was a damn puzzle on the 3DS streetpass).

I liked the character introduction of the Fire Emblem: Awakening characters to SSB. Aeolus probably knows, but I think the cut scene was a revamped anime scene early on from the 3DS game. Cross referencing from what I see on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Smash_Bros._for_Nintendo_3DS_and_Wii_U, there are going to be a ton of new players. Pretty much a ton of players overall. Do we know what the magic max number of characters they will stop at? It's crazy to think that Brawl came out in March 2008 for the U.S. Feels like forever ago. Only a few more months now, woot woot.

Would love a Shulk addition! Imagine him saying, "BEHOLD! THE POWER OF THE MONADO!"
