You're just being cryptic again. It's like soap opera sex. Lots of boring dialogue and when they finally do go to bed, everything's dark and covered by blankets.

Considering the things certain hacker groups like to "protest" about, I certainly can't see any good coming from allowing that...

Goals of the DDoS aside, aren't most DDoS attacks done using botnets of zombie hosts without the computer owner's consent (or knowledge)?  That's kind of blatantly illegal...

That is one way to do it, yeah.

Well, if it is to be a form of protest, you would indeed need to be sure it's human actions and not a botnet.
Then you have to consider if tools like LOIC are valid or not.

Final problem though is that when you nuke a server... there can be some severe collateral damage.
That's the biggest problem I find.

Yeah, I can't see it as being a form of protest when there's actual damage done.

That being said, people shouldn't be going to jail for it, it should be handled as a civil, not criminal, matter.

It is simply not legal to deny people access to a place of business, even in a protest. You can, like, yell at them and stuff and make a big stink, but you can't deny them entry. You can't do it in the physical universe and it seems reasonable to me the same thing should apply online.

Well, the difference is that in the physical world there would be... well, physical obstruction. In the digital world they wouldn't be actually physically harming or preventing people from doing stuff, which is why I think it should be civil, not criminal.

Well, the difference is that in the physical world there would be... well, physical obstruction. In the digital world they wouldn't be actually physically harming or preventing people from doing stuff, which is why I think it should be civil, not criminal.

When you bring a site down completely, you absolutely prevent people from doing stuff. You prevent them from accessing the website, which in many cases is the same thing as the store. So I actually don't agree. They are not physically harming people, agree 100% there. But they are definitely preventing people from doing stuff.

The potential "physical damage" to the servers themselves is a little more dubious to me, although it could potentially be costly. But more important is the notion of blocking business.

What I really mean is that I'm not sure that launching a DoS attack against, say, some blog or whitehouse.gov is the same thing as launching one at, say, amazon.com or something.

Obviously there are ways to sniff out DoS attacks and prevent them, just like there are ways in the physical world (hiring security guards or something) to do it, but failure to protect yourself does not necessarily mean you are complicit as a victim of an attack.

It is definitely an interesting approach though.

Jesus....
Deaf twins going blind opt for euthanasia.  A sort of sad version of the typical euthanasia tale since this time "suffering" isn't coming from being terminally ill....  Just a choice they wanted since they were going to be deprived largely of their two most important senses...

Dunno how I feel, really.

It doesn't seem that different than them committing suicide and really, I can't blame them.  I couldn't imagine not having eye site and not being able to see friends/family, random daily functions, play games, or scope out a nice rack.  Because of it, I really hate when people fuck around and shine shit in my eyes.  I smacked a co-worker in the balls for doing it too many times before.  Annoys the hell outta me.
