EDIT:  Just saw a news report saying that the US government is clearing some space for wi-fi on planes and plans to sell the license for it to the highest bidder.  I imagine that will get some ridiculously high bids; complimentary and good wi-fi on long flights would help make for a very popular airline!

Fun story hitting the net: Michael Jeffries, Aberbrombie & Fitch's CEO (who looks like a mix of Gary Busey and Bif from Back to the Future) is getting a slap on the hands lately.  Despite looking like some Plastic Surgery troll, it's true, he does only want to hire and market to beautiful-people.  To make matters worse, he refuses to make XL or XXL sizes for women -- because he doesn't want large ladies wearing his brand.

This guy honestly never left the "bully stage" from his High School youth:

Good for him. If people don't like it then don't buy it. Some company shouldn't have to produce clothes to fit every size of fat out there. I'm sure this has been the practice in smaller boutique stores since they've existed.

While I agree I think it's ...strange to make clothes to fit the "widening" population (I don't think it's good incentive and a sort of excuse to "stay that size"), but I do think it's bad business practice nonetheless. 

However, the whole "only attractive people should wear my clothes" thing is just 100% bigoted, especially coming from a man who'd hardly be hired by his own store.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest and if that's the way he wants to market his stuff then good luck buddy. They've been doing this forever and it seems to be working for them.

I walked into one of their stores once and promptly walked out. Clothes are a brand to be geared towards a certain demographic. You may fit the pants but you might not fit the mold.

I don't remember an outcry when FUBU came out. If a clothing line for "urban brothers" can exist without people getting in an uproar than so can a clothing line for Chads and Trixies.

I love A&F models.  Literally, a billboard when you enter the store isn't a model with the clothes on --- just a blown-up poster of gorgeous man-chest staring you down.


I avoid their brand mainly because I refuse to pay thirty-fucking-dollars on a tank top, and $80 on a flimsy sweater.

I don't get what that guy is so proud of. I can think of one target demographic that would consistently fit in XS-M and that would be crack addicts. Also, what cool highschool kid would value some old, surgically misshapen dude's opinion on 'cool'?

I'm fine with some stores catering to the smaller crowd, because it can actually be kind of difficult to find clothes in XS-S when the world around you is getting larger and larger. My mom usually shops in the children's sections nowadays, because more and more stores don't carry adult clothes in her size. It's not like she's too thin. She's short and has a healthy weight to match. My sis and I are like that too. But it's stupid that our size is seen as ideal. I know plenty of attractive healthy young women who generally look best in XL simply because they're tall and curvy. Good boobs take up a lot of space, you know?

Edit: took a look at the A&F webshop. Wow, that stuff is kinda really boring. Some of the sweaters look like something grandma would knit and not in a good way.
