I kinda nabbed this with Aeolous' Breath of Fire rundown, thought it'd be fun. Describe games as quick as possible, reviews are too long to read in this day and age. Extra points if you can peg off whole series'.
So, let's go with what I was gonna respond to Aeo...
Let's go with it...
BoF1 -- Weird game, but memorable and classic. Lol to white/black man on the party, but I was real fond of the save-music tune. Amazing, diverse cast was a real perk too.
BoF2 -- Dungeons from fucking hell. Really cool title with mature story line (for it's time, and is still kinda freaky), stunning graphics, awful music, great design, and cool fusion system that was weird (
SOLO!!). The fucking Frog Kingdom can get nuked for all I care though -- what a bunch of bullshit for a shit character. I'm pretty sure that, although a looker, Nina has a mullet.
BoF3 -- I hate the adult overworld music, I love the swanky kid's one. Great game, dragon gems were balling, and awesome characters held back by the worst text scrolling EVER. Amazing graphics, but odd setting... Momo <3. Annoying dungeons. Also, alarmed that the game opens with you as a dragon clearly roasting Mogu and Bo (love the opening mural referecing BoF1 -- that's like seeing a PSX game in HD today)
BoF4 -- Love the world and atmosphere (love the combination of cultures and folklore), cool battle system mechanics that is all too easy to realy take advantage of its more complex systems. Music was outstanding, animations were too. Amazing motley crew cast. Fou-Lu scenarios lets you see the "enemy's" side of things -- why don't more games do this?
BoFV -- The best black sheep a series could see (it changed everything, like how FF13 tried but it couldn't get over the hump). Hard; nicely countering 4's easiness. Love Ryu talking and Nina not (for disturbing reasons). I loved the direction -- why is it over?? Dark setting, unique to the realm of gaming in general. Taught less is much, much more. Made every move you make as something that counts.
Goodbye Breath of Fire, we hardly knew ye.
