The one strategic (or RTSish) element to the game is the handling of alignment which is more of a micromanaging aspect than anything else. I guess the only real strategy for the Ogre Battle games is to know when to liberate towns and to establish and properly deploy units that can do so with some margin of efficiency.
"only real strategy" is an erroneous term. You can't call strategies that you don't like "not strategy", or strategies that are very low difficulty or easy to figure out, etc.
