Hello everyone,

I am looking for an anime JRPG on my PSP.

I know that there are tons of "anime-ish and 2D" rpgs out there, but what I am looking for is kinda like the Persona series where you have :

1- Well drawn anime style chars.
2- Graphics is like cell-shaded.
3- Lots of running around talking to ppl (wich ususally happens at the school or campus).
4- J-POP music.

To give you an example of what I am looking for:
1- Persona series.
2- Valkyria Chronicles.
3- God Eater Burst.
4- Fate/Extra.

Anything else out there on PSP? (could also check DS titles).

I would suggest trying:

The World Ends With You - Has all of your requirements. It is a weird game that requires a lot of use of the touch controls and takes place in modern day Tokyo.

Legend of Heroes, Trails in the Sky - has three of your requirements and is an amazing RPG in itself. It is a fantasy RPG. Music isn't J-Pop but it is enjoyable.

Radiant Historia - three of your requirements. AMAZING RPG, definately worth a try if you can get it still. Doesn't do J-Pop tho.

This. You'll find few other games that fit your requirements as well as this one does.

The Persona games have their issues. But I like their darker nature then a lot of the more lighthearted anime stuff

An all J-Pop soundtrack is pretty much going to be limited to P3, P4, or TWEWY.

(Also I'd argue that P3's soundtrack's influences were broader than just JPop. The battle themes have a major highlife feel, and there's still a lot of the minimalist ambient, smooth jazz, and krautrock from the other PS2 megaten games).

Trails in the Sky is really good.  Growlanser fits the first criteria and has lots of choices and silent protag like persona

Errr, Valkyria Chronicles meets none of your requirements bar the cell shaded graphics. Also, asking for an anime styled jRPG is kind of silly since pretty much every jRPG is anime styled, it would actually be a lot harder to find one that isn't. Id say that what you're looking for is a blend of jRPG and a graphic novel in a modern setting. Sadly, I can't help you since the best example I know of is Persona 4, and I'm pretty sure you've already played that (I'm borderline certain that that's the game that left you wanting more in the first place*).

*either that or P3.

NOW PLAYING:                                         IMPRESSIONS:
Natural Selection2:                                         RTS/FPS hybrid that I just cant seem to get bored of.
Hearthstone:                                                 I don't like card games, and yet I enjoy this.

What about Wind Waker? It's cel-shaded and has pirates. Pirates are kind of like JPop!

Thank you Fei for the welcome :)
This site has been one of my favorite.

Excellent suggestions guys, all the games you recommend have very good reviews.
I will definitely check them out once I am done with Fate/Extra (currently playing).

I totally agree, its my favorite RPG on DS, too bad its a bit underrated and many ppl dont know about it.

True, maybe me saying J-POP was a bit of a stretch.
You do put it in a better terms, that is kinda what I liked regarding the music in those games.

This screams Mana Khemia, but you do not want to play Mana Khemia on the PSP. Load times and other issues kill all the fun. Try the PS2 version instead.

It might be a little slow-moving and doesn't take place at a school or similar, but for my money the most gorgeous cel-shaded anime-art game of all time is Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King.  I love simply walking around the world map in that game.

Maybe simply good music instead of half-arsed music  :D

1- Well drawn anime style chars.
2- Graphics is like cell-shaded.
3- Lots of running around talking to ppl (wich ususally happens at the school or campus).
4- J-POP music.

To give you an example of what I am looking for:
1- Persona series.

Anything else out there on PSP? (could also check DS titles).

1) they are very well drawn they have almost full body portraits and depending on their mood their portrait reflect it.
2) Nope
3) Like in most rpgs you can talk to people in towns (even tough is a srpg)
4) Nope.

Growlanser WoT share this similarities with the persona sries:

-You can name the silent protagonist MC.
- You can hook up with npc and pc females.
-Lots of choices that raises or lower the relationships
- Events in wich you can date said females (Think of it like the Social links)
- Hard (Trademark of most ATLUS games)

Give it a shot.
