Big-name producer is a good thing?
It was only a matter of time I guess.

Truth be told, a movie like this should be pretty easy to make. Derailing an MGS plot is almost impossible considering the games are barely coherent themselves. A group of oddball enemies, a bunch of action sequences, a love interest, an absurd plot twist and a final battle against a mech involving a bazooka. Oh, and you have to have a cyber-ninja. Done deal, even Mr. Boll could pull this one off.
The only possible way I could see this movie being broken is if they play the "American action hero" card and have Snake run around waving the US flag while being overly patriotic. The "the world is a dick and everything is a conspiracy, no exceptions" rule is probably the only thing consistent about the MGS universe.

Metal Gear has never really been about that. But yeah, I get what you're saying.
...I would quote more but I agree with you about the whole American action hero thing. Realistically, this movie has more probability to be bad than anything else even with Kojima overseeing the project.
But I suppose is still too early to be like "the end is nigh" for now.

Hence the "even". I honestly think this movie would be difficult to mess up, even for him.

Take the story of MGS3 and adapt that into a movie, you can't fuck that up.

Cyber-ninja works too considering cyber 'used' to be short for 'cybernetic'; implying both the connotations of either being 'partially' or 'complete'.

I kinda feel that the ingredients are there already for a flick of this, as Maxx pointed out. It will automatically lose a star for the same reason all other "game-based-movies" lose a star: you're not playing the role.

They'll find a way. I agree with you. I almost think it's better off to start from here. Imagine a ten minute sequence of Snake lying around fighting The End.
It really depends on how they cast it. In a way, it's too bad a lot of the voice actors are so associated with their roles.

Why can't they just make it as a cgi movie? Pixar makes a killing doing it with kids stuff, why can't Columbia do it? The games are already 60% CGI anyway.
