32GB Premium Set with Nintendo Network Premium: 31,500 yen (30,000 yen before tax). 8GB Basic Set: 26,250 yen (25,000 yen before tax).

Quote
13,440 yen for Wii U GamePad when sold separately. Prices include tax.

There will soon be a US announcement but for now these are the estimated prices.

So it seems Rob was right about the controllers being costy as hell.

It's almost as bad as buying the old wii controllers at launch. The difference here is people probably won't be stockpiling these to sell later.

Nothing will ever beat the original Wii sales in new york though. Generally 6-700 bucks for the console at launch. Little stores paid people to sit online and buy the console so they could resell it later...I know cuz I was asked to do so, lol.

Yikes.  Waiting for price drop... or splitting cost with brother.

Seeing as the controllers are almost a handheld on their own, I'm not really that surprised they cost so much.

Except without all those pesky CPUs, GPUs, memory, etc.  They've got a screen, sure, but they're still totally dependent on the console to do anything.  This does seem like a lot.  I would have guessed more like $100.

On the other hand, almost all console accessories are overpriced.  That's just how things are in this industry.

This kinda sucks. I was all excited about the Wii U after they showed off some of the games, but that price is a tad steep. I'll wait for either a sale or price drop.

I remain completely disinterested. Plus, I don't see anything in the foreseeable future changing this. This is actually a good thing, as there are plenty of PS3/360 games I have yet to play. I don't need a new console. Perhaps in a couple years.

Screw you Nintendo!!! You sucked quite a few bills out of me this year in handheld-crap!! If I don't see some primo-3rd party support for this console its gonna be a loooooong time before a bid adieu to my Wii and upgrade..... And those controllers are ugly as sin BTW.....

I'll politely wait for next sony/micro

If some sweet games come out that use the controller well I may change my mind. The black one looks sexy

Seeing as it's Nintendo, it's a fair assumption to assume it is.
