The Project Eternity kickstarter is wrapping up (only 16 hours to go as I'm writing this) and I'm surprised there isn't more talk about it here. If you're a fan of the Infinity Engine games (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape: Torment), the original Fallout games, or Arcanum then you should be interested in this game. Many of the same people who madde those games are working on it and they're very much trying to recreate that classic RPG feel that's been lost in a lot of modern games. Since that list I just mentioned includes a number of my favorate games of all time, naturally I was interested.
The cool thing is that even with 16 hours to go PE has already beaten the Double Fine Adventure's record for most-funded video game on kickstarter, and from what understand in most kickstarter projects there's a big surge on the last day as people who were hesitating decide to put some money down. It will be interesting to see how high it gets in the next few hours. Seems like all the stretch goals have been met (when you add in Paypal donations which are over $100k but aren't included in the total on the kickstarter page), so they might be introducing some new ones.
The kickstarter page is
here
so check it out.

Worth bringing up the RPGFan interview too.
I'm in for $35, dunno if I'll bump up or not though.

Finally decided at the last minute to back this.
EDIT: 16 hours left on the Kickstarter if anyone else wants to take the dive.

It's coming to Mac/Linux, and those three platforms (well, and possibly mobile) are the only platforms you can even do something like this for. You'd have to go through approval and all that crap for consoles, which is VERY problematic if it gets turned down, plus there's design concessions that may need to be made as a straight port of the Infinity Engine games COULD have been very problematic. Probably the best hope is that it's super successful and gets ported to Wii U or something, the Game Pad is probably much more friendly to games designed around mouse controls.

I've been following this project since it launched last month, and as of right now, they're almost at the 4mil mark, but just not quite, although the boost in number of donations per hour is certainly helping. At this point in the campaign, I'm sure most people are pitching in as a form of pre-ordering, and to get a piece of some of the goodies.
I'm already in love with the lore and world they're creating, and obviously channeling the Infinity Engine games is a great way to win over my heart. I lurve BG2 to this day, and this game is shaping up to be a worthy spiritual successor. I love Bioware's games as well, but despite similar gameplay mechanics, I don't see them as being spiritual successors, not that that's a bad thing.
Can't wait to see more about this game as it develops.

$150k or so from $4 million. Just under 2 hours.
Come on, let's make Chris Avellone play Arcanum! ;)

That's just on Kickstarter. They've gotten about another $150k via Paypal that's not counted in the Kickstarter total, so they've probably already hit $4 million. Pretty sweet.

That's missing the point somewhat, when the plan is to make a game that plays like old PC RPGs.

The only KickStarter projects I'm in on are Project Eternity and the OCRemix FF VI project. This game could be really cool - hopefully I manage to replay Baldur's Gate II and finally play Planescape: Torment before it comes out.

Some final numbers:
$3,986,929 on the Kickstarter page and supposedly $140,099 in Paypal donations. More than enough to fund the final stretch goal. Project is go!
Also,
this page
is pretty neat.

It would be funny if they spent the money on cheetos and root beer.
