Steam is handing out Dota2 keys like crazy. A while ago I got some and gave them to my friends from LoL, but now I got some more. If you want a key PM me your email and I'll send you an invite. I can't tell how many of these things I have, so it'll be first come first serve. :)

It's more like the Command and Conquer games only you control a single unit instead of the entire base.

I'm actually ashamed of the people who did the champion creation for this game. I looked at it out of curiosity and there's not a single female character in the 'Strength' category. Boo-Hiss.

To be fair, only about 5 or 6 of the Strength champions are actually even human.

Though just because there aren't any female strength heroes, don't mean there aren't any female tanks. Death Prophet is an Intelligence hero but is a tank, rather than a burst caster.

Is it like league of legends where you have to buy the majority of champions?  How big is the install size?

I tried it the other night for about 1 minute and the learning cliff was so high that I just backed away and shut it down. :(

It's incredibly steep. It's an unfortunate aspect of the genre.

I don't recommend this game, and that's after playing the original for several years, as well as League of Legends afterwards.  Unless you have an absurd amount of free time and don't mind angry shut-ins screaming at you because you don't last hit creeps properly during the first 10 minutes of the game, it's just not worth learning everything there is to know about it.  It's a timesink for abuse.  No matter how good you are, there will be someone better and angrier who will find something to get upset about.  Or, even worse, you could become that angry douche bag.  But, yeah, I'm totally handing out keys.

I feel like the MOBA genre has two branches:

1) Heroes of Newerth + Dota2 = Super hardcore and full of assholes.  This is fun for a very specific type of gamer.

2) League of Legends + LotR, etc. = Less hardcore.  Only KIND OF full of assholes.  These are more friendly.

I can't recommend Dota2 either.  It's a better deal for the money, but League of Legends is just so much more accessible and entertaining.
