2012 marks the debut of the "Music of the Year" feature here at RPGFan.  http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2012/2158.html

So what were some of your favorite game soundtracks for 2012?

I found Neal's selections to be the most surprising! TWO Idea Factory / Compile Heart OSTs? Very strange, but very exciting.

Also <3 DUST, and that PSP Suikoden has some surprisingly good tunes.

I liked the samples for Record of Agarest War 2 but I can't seem to find the OST anywhere (hell, there is no review for it either, hint hint!).

My favorites:
- Last Story OST
- Mass Effect 3
- FFXIII-2 (didn't like the game but still love the soundtrack)

We'll have a review of the European partial OST release coming very soon :)

I was a big fan of those three albums, as well.

Dust is definitely my fave of the year. I bought that ST as soon as it was available.
I also loved the Journey soundtrack.
I own all the ME soundtracks, and 3 easily has some of the best tracks. Especially those used towards the end. Very dramatic stuff.
I didn't really play any normal rpgs this year, so I can't really comment on much else.

As a side note, I clicked on the feature thinking that it was only going to be in-game soundtracks. I suppose the title should have tipped me off. The inclusion of arranged stuff seemed odd, but I know the end of the year awards will cover strictly the normal soundtracks. This was for ALL rpg type music.
Of course, nowadays there really isn't any quality difference between the two. It's more a matter of taste. Most of the time I prefer the regular OST.

I knew that Patrick was going to put the Romancing SaGa Battle Arrange album as one of his favorites! :P

Definitely a great album. Also, seems that I need to check out the soundtrack of Dust.

I used to prefer straight OSTs, but in recent years there have been so many great arrangement albums that I'm loving them more and more.

And yes, everyone should check out Dust's OST. Remember, it is listenable in full on HyperDuck's Bandcamp page. The game is great, too. A little bit repetitive, but considering the length and quality of the adventure, its easily my favorite XBLA game this year. I hope it can get a Steam release.
