Well, at least we know a sequel is coming.  Here's hoping for localization!

New Legend of Heroes announced for PS3, PS Vita -- Source: Gematsu

Next Game in Falcom's Legend of Heroes series is for PS3 and Vita -- Source: Siliconera

Pretty happy with this being on PS3 and Vita, hopefully it comes out here too. It looks pretty awesome and like the part in the Siliconera article where it says that the battle system is "designed to be fast".

Soexcitedsoexcitedsoexcitedsoexcitedsoexcitedsoexcited

This looks great.  PS3 and Vita?  Hopefully that means crossplay.  Start a game on your PS3 and continue it on the road.  What more could I ask for?  Oh right, localizations...

I wonder how closely tied in this is with the other Kiseki games.  At some point you have to wonder if skipping some titles makes sense.  Actually, localizing something like this could raise the profile of the other titles if they ever did get localized...

Point.

I refuse excitement till a possible localization announcement.

Pretty graphics for a developer who doesn't really dabble in the big HD models.

I don't think we'll see this for a few years, since XSEED's localization of the second and third Trails games seems to be in development hell.

At the rate XSeed is going it's going to be a decade.  I wish that was an exaggeration, but it's not.

I love XSeed's localization, but it just isn't viable at this rate.  It's not at the level of "wait for it" but rather, "it ain't gonna happen unless somebody else steps up."

Probably the only practical way is for a company with enough funds to launch a larger, coordinated effort. Make a localization bible to keep all the names and terms consistent, get the games brute forced all at once by different teams/companies, then release them spaced by, I dunno, 6-9 months using the time in between for one team to edit each installment and ensure it's as consistent as reasonably possible. Probably still get some screw ups in the process, and we'd STILL be waiting quite awhile, but at least it wouldn't be two+ years between installments.

But I'm sure Xseed can't afford to do that, and Falcom might not either though I guess they'd have to be the ones to do it if they really want to get international releases out. Or they could take the easy way and put together "previously in Trails" reviews for this new one, but I'd rather actually PLAY THEM, or at least get SC out. Lamest way to address a cliffhanger like that would be skipping ahead 4 games and going "by the way this happened."

I think Xseed will at least get SC out, in some form or another (Steam is likely).  They have been working on it (at least that's what they say in their forums...) and I think they've put too much into it to just quit at this point.  And I don't think Falcom is likely to pull a Vanillaware on this one, it is their flagship franchise.

But I'm pretty skeptical about anything beyond SC.

Edit: Another point worth mentioning is that the scripts for these games keeps getting longer.  FC was big, but SC is huge.  And I'm not sure about TC, but Zero and Ao are supposed to be even bigger than SC...

I've heard TC is a bit bigger than FC, so comparatively I guess that's something of a break. Zero and Ao, yeah, those I'm most worried about, at least the first three are on PC with this one on PS3 and Vita.
