So, I read the conclusion to the Retro Encounter feature for TITS, and it got me thinking; am I the only one that actually enjoyed the combat in that game? Because the universal consensuses in the RE seems to be that while the story and characters are fantastic, (and rightfully so,) the gameplay is so-so at best, and tedious and a slog to get through at worst. Honestly, I thought the combat was pretty good. It's not just mashing the attack option all day like some RPG's do; hitting an enemy's weakness does a good chunk of damage, and certain attacks also have range and area, so you have to take both of those into account. You can also see everyone's turn-placement ahead of time, which not every RPG does. And yeah, battles can take a minute or two, but there aren't a ton of battles either, and you don't have to grind to get ahead, so I think that all of that compensates for the length of the battles. And the sidequests are actually interesting, instead of just being banal fetch-quests like in some RPG's. I just don't see what the problem is.
