Holy Sword Legend: Circle of Mana | SQUARE ENIX

"Circle of Mana is a card battling RPG with characters from the entire Mana series. concept art shows the heroes from Secret of Mana, the Japan-only sequel Seiken Densetsu 3, and Dawn of Mana (technically Seiken Densetsu 4)."

"Various worlds are connected through the Mana Tree. The Mana Tree is said to be the source for all of the mana in the world, but now it's being threatened. When this happens a holy sword appears which heroes use to protect the tree and maintain the balance of the world. A mysterious force is weakening the tree and making monsters appear. Peace begins to dissipate, but you can save the world in Circle of Mana by finding the holy sword."

"Circle of Mana is slated for release in 2013 for smartphones including iOS and Android devices."

Cell phone games are where franchises go to die... I'm really disappointed with how the mana series turned out. It has such a fantastic foundation that it hurts to know that it will probably never be back at its former glory.

We've had plenty of healthy franchises get mobile spin offs. The problem is when that's ALL you get.

Besides it's compilations that franchises go to die in. No good has come from Final Fantasy since the three compilations that have been visited upon it nor did that World of Mana thing work out at all.

The baffling thing, at least for me, is that this series is perfect for a port or remake or something substantial using the older games. I remember there was a mini-flareup when Square Enix accidentally mixed screenshots from SD3 with the initial announcement of Heroes of Mana.

Or hell, just have them put up a translated version of SD3 on PSN or something. I'm sure they have some abandoned localization attempt sitting in a cardboard box somewhere, and hell, it worked well enough for Squaresoft with FFV.
