original pokemans came out in 1996, I think the fanbase has aged with the series and I actually don't know how popular it is with the really young kids over here now. Also, really feeling the new mon designs and promo code to preorder them on newegg for $33, life is good.

The names just get dumber and dumber every year...

That said, I think I'll probably get it. And if I do, I'll be going with Fenniken:

I'm absolutely agree with you .

Squids do have beaks, and if you look carefully, that one is just upside down and walking on two of its tentacles. Still kind of a bizarre design, but I don't think "Squiguin" is what they were going for

I love the evolution for Pancham. Totally gonna have to catch me one of them little guys. The new professor kind of reminds me of Deb's boyfriend from season 1 of Dexter.

According to Serebii, Xerneas will be Fairy type while Yveltal will be Dark/Flying. And the new team seems to be called Team Flare.

Pandamon!  The superhero with a built-in mask!  Defender of endangered species world wide!!!!

Okay, I'm being silly but that's what I thought of when I saw the cape.

Then again, Pokemon have been getting more ludicrous and I just go along for the acid/shroom-trippin' ride.  I mean, there exists garbador- a pokemon made out of garbage.

I'm actually really liking the designs so far, anything I find weird is in a good way. They usually show all the ones they're most proud of in magazines and such, though. I think G5 was my least favorite as far as designs go.

Pokemon is not getting more ridiculous. Pokemon has ALWAYS been ridiculous.

How is Grimer any less disgusting than Garbador, at least Trubbish is cute. Grimer just evolves from a small pile of shit and slime to a bigger pile of shit and slime. At least Garbador has a structure too him.

Also let's not forget Jynx, the Golliwog Pokemon.

I really, really think these Pokemon designs are fantastic. Especially Squidwin. I think the Cotton Candy pokemon looks adorable too.

I never said the ridculous designs were bad.  I think that's why I'm digging it more now, because it's just fearless creativity and fearless creativity is often polarizing.  Look at the gen 5 starters.  Oshawott was the dorkiest looking starter pokemon ever, but he evolved into quite the badass.

I've said this before, but I hope the gen 6 starters are as cool as their potential seems to indicate.  Let's think about the starters.  I haven't played all the Pokemon games, but this is what a good portion of people on ze Intarwebnet seem to think.  Like if there was a bell curve to Pokemon preferences, these would likely be in the big middle of the bell.

gen 1: Bulbasaur/Charmander/Squirtle- the benchmark set of starters.  They all have solid stats and great evolutions.  Charizard is teh awesome.

gen 2: Chikorita/Cyndaquil/Totodile- definitely a step down.  None were as good as their first-gen counterparts whether starting or evolved.  Few people seem to have good things to say about Chikorita.  Totodile and Cyndaquil are alright, but not as good as Charmander or Squirtle.

gen 3: Treecko/Torchic/Mudkip- vast improvement.  Mudkip and its evolutions are considered among the best water starters and Treecko (and its evolutions) are considered among the best grass types.  Torchic evolving into a fire/fighting type was cool.

gen 4: Turtwig/Chimchar/Piplup- solid lineup.  It's been often said that Turtwig is the best grass type starter ever, because Torterra is an absolute beast.  Piplup evolving into a water/steel type is a big plus too.  Chimchar was no slouch either.

gen 5: Snivy/Tepig/Oshawott- from what I've been reading, these guys seem like a step down.  Snivy and its evolutions look cool, but don't seem to have the stats to back it up.  Grass aficionados favor Turtwig, Treecko, and Bulbasaur a lot more.  Tepig's evolutions are fugly and really?  ANOTHER fire/fighting type, and reportedly not as good as Chimchar or Torchic?  Oshawott has cool evolutions, but would water aficionados choose him over Mudkip, Piplup, or Squirtle?

gen 6: Chespin/Fennekin/Froakie- here's hoping that Chespin is a good grass starter on par with Treecko or Turtwig.  Grass needs someone who kicks ass.  For Fennekin, I'm hoping it's NOT another fire/fighting type.  That would be ridiculous in a bad way.  I'm thinking Froakie will be like Oshawott- the starter that most people think is "dorky looking" but becomes quite the badass.

I think Froakie is just as, if not more, adorable as Fenekin. Seriously, I think Fenekin is getting too much love. We already got "cute fire fox" in the form of Vulpix.
