Pokemon
X
&
Y
(with I guess
"Z"
later on)
Normally, I don't care about the series. But I don't deny the love I had for it as a kid, and the fact that I love its concept. But, I'm making a topic because the series is
finally
growing up a bit --
Pokemon XY is a FULL 3D game (that's right! No more four-directional walking!!!!!!!!!)
I'm curious. The starters look pretty cool, and it's a worldwide release in October, 2013 (with maybe a delay announcement though haha). I know we're all not crazy about the series -- but we've made topics for far more niche series'.

The names just get dumber and dumber every year...
That said, I think I'll probably get it. And if I do, I'll be going with Fenniken:

I like Fennekin the most (cute pun), but I can already see, being the most badass looking, everyone's gonna pick him. I like the Grass type one, Chisnut or Chesnip or whatever.

Just hoping that unlike black and white, pokemon from previous generations get evolutions. Maybe pinsir will finally get an evolution. I'm actually curious what the water type will turn into and will probably pick that.

Re: titles
I imagine X, Y, and the inevitable Z are references to the fact that this is the first true 3D Pokemon game.

Eh; almost interested. Will keep an eye out for the new pokes anyway as time goes on. I wish the series were a little more adaptive though. What's funny is considering it's '6th Generation' Pokemon still pales in comparison (in terms of 'surface depth) to it's old rival, Digimon's, '2nd Generation'; despite the huge gap in time and tech. (I don't count the IV/EV system as 'depth'; in fact I see the series greatest weakness as there's no such thing as 'casual PVP' anymore. You either spent weeks RNGing the right stats or you just go play a rigged crane game at a shady Vegas arcade; same odds of winning.)
I.E: Digimon 2 had a very basic 'breeding' system. Allowing you to fuse your evolved monsters to get a new one to start over with; allowing you to pass on moves that the creature might not otherwise obtain and utilizing it to make certain evolutions unlockable only through repeated breeding.
It was crude and primitive but someone at Nintendo should've long grabbed that ball and ran with it. Breeding in Pokemon only means grabbing a Ditto and spaming the Daycare for shineys, IV farming, or Eevee cloning; such a wasted mechanic. If they adapted and enhanced the Digimon mechanic it would add a nice layer of depth and give you reason to actually
cultivate
your little army other than for OHKOing NPCs.

I'll play this if the battles aren't slow as molasses. I hated that you couldn't fast forward through battle text in Pokemon Pearl and Diamond.

That's been fixed since Platinum. Battles are very fast in Black & White.

Meh.
Not enough for a pretty grind-heavy game.
When I think of
perfect speed + grind
I think of FFX or DDS

Well, they reworked how EXP is calculated as well, it's not as grindy as it used to be. The main game frankly requires hardly any grinding to win, unless you are just getting a new pokemon up to the level of your team.
You also get the Lucky Egg item pretty early now as well, which doubles EXP gained.

You can turn off battle animations. You will literally miss the battles if you blink.
