More than 34,000 people have signed an online petition calling on the Obama administration to build the "Star Wars" inspired super-weapon to spur job growth and bolster national defense.

But in a posting Friday on the White House website, Paul Shawcross, an administration adviser on science and space, says a Death Star would cost too much to build — an estimated $850 quadrillion — at a time the White House is working to reduce the federal budget.

Besides, Shawcross says, the Obama administration "does not support blowing up planets."

One of the things Newt Gingrich (one of the people that was in the running during Republican primaries) was criticized/made fun of for was his proposal for the US to establish a moon base. While it does sound outlandish, it's actually something that's very possible technologically, just probably not very economy-friendly. =P

To be fair, the 2012 Republican Primaries were a comedy goldmine in terms of the nominees. It's why the Republicans had to settle for Mr. Milquetoast Romney (although he did shit on a few national economies with his old company Bain Capital). I only wish that Donald Trump had gotten in on some of that action instead of just blackmailing the president from the sidelines (among other things).

But what happens when one of the Padawans or a mentally deficient Jedi turns to the dark side and goes on an academy killing spree? Think man, we need to post Stormtroopers at every academy and arm all of our teachers with Lightsabers.
