Pop Fiction Episode 31
Just in case...
Code:
So, who else had a bit of early-internet era nostalgia over this? I figured I'd share since I'm pretty sure anyone
who played FF III/VI back in the day, at some point, tried one of the various Leo-rumors out there on ye olden gaming
sites. It's quite fantastic to see someone actually managed to breathe life into one of JRPG's larger urban legends.

Wow, that's pretty cool. I didn't even know about the airship glitch...that takes some dedication.

I can't imagine how much time that took to figure out. Still, I found it absolutely fascinating. Thanks for sharing this!

wow..... if I was 10 years old again I can easily see me sacrificing a chunk of my summer vacation to do that... i became leo obsessed after renting ff3 at blockbuster only to find the good general playable on someones save slot-LoL
this was beyond neat... how the hell anyone ever figured that out though is both astonishing and a bit sad....

Funny, someone linked something else the other day and it was the first time I've heard of it too.
Gametrailers/screw attack has some decent stuff if you look for it.

There's an LP that also did this, among other things, but due to the way the LP Archives have been redesigned I can't link to the specific LP anymore.
Still, the best part of that glitch is the retcon that Terra's her own father.

Watching the pop fiction series now. These are generally great videos, though I was totally disappointed by the Halo 2 vid. Scarab gun I did multiple times, in college. Extremely well-known. I wish they had pursued the harder methods for obtaining it, and addressed rumors of pulling off a "dual-wield" for scarab gun.
That and hunting down all the skulls. When I stopped playing Halo 2 in 2005, I was still baffled by some of the rumors of skulls and other outside-the-map craziness.

I thought Leo was a minor character that didn't matter very much.
Okay fucking weird that this applies to the GBA version.
This sounds like, er, basically a form of memory corruption. And it makes sense that it occurs on the PSX version since that's basically just an emulator and a modified FFVI rom, so the same hardware quirks would apply.
I THOUGHT, however, that the GBA version would've been recoded, on a completely different kind of architecture, which would be less ammenable for this kind of thing to ...
broken glass...

Hahahahahahahahahaha...*catches breath*...ahahahahahahahaha! No. If there's one thing Squeenix inherited from Squaresoft, it was their laziness in regards to their ports.

How one would even begin to come up with the method of doing this is pretty amazing.

That's the thing, though.
Original SNES version would've been written in pure assembly, and assembly isn't portable. You either emulate it -- like on the PSX version -- or you have to rewrite it. And I don't think the GBA can really do SNES emulation, so... Also briefly googling gives me the impression that GBA games are written in C.
btw Phantasy Star 2 on the Genesis does something similar, with ALL the character data, making it hard to change the order you get characters in without rewriting the entire... character selection menu code at Rolf's house, and kludging in some checks.
I should get back to messing with assembling hacking, it was very mentally invigorating and fiddly enough that I don't know how I didn't go insane
oh wait

I'm going to assume you had the same problem everyone else did when they swapped their players out.
Hotfix:
-Right click within the video screen.
-Click 'Settings' from the drop down menu.
-Click on the farthest lower left icon that looks like a computer monitor.
-Uncheck 'Enable Hardware Acceleration'.
-Refresh the page and all videos on that site should work just fine now.
