I'll admit, I had given up hope on this. I wasn't impressed with the trailers I saw before, either, but they didn't show...well, much of anything, in retrospect. The trailer Ninty posted looked great, and now I'm pretty happy we're getting it.

I mean no offence, and I'm still kinda interested in this title (pending reviews), but, aesthetically-speaking, this literally looks like a JRPG for grade schoolers.

I have to say I'm kind of shocked we're getting this and not DQ 7.

Well, when you put it that way...

Got a chance to gaze upon this during today's Livestream and yep, that's certainly a Level 5 game. There's going to be grinding to grind up your grinds, and I can already imagine how annoying its going to be to cart around those bounty boxes. The level design didn't look too inspiring either.

Maaaan, yeah. I wanted DQ7 a lot -- I honestly loved the original and it would've been nice to play it with a reasonable translation.

--- edoot ---

Okay, having actually watched the trailer-

1. I like the big-headed dragons. A lot.

2. Baking QTEs and minigames into crafting iiiiisn't something I'm generally fond of. I think I might've mentioned this once or twice but like Ultima 7 is one of my favorite games ever and making stuff in that was just click flour, click water, click bowl, click oven. DONE, YA GOT BREADS. Very direct -- no obtuse minigames or skill systems to trip over.

This is something I reaaaaally like about Atelier Iris too -- the alchemy was /really/ straightorward in terms of how you actually did it.

Basically my interest in using a crafting system is entirely related to how many hoops I have to jump through to craft.

3. Combat looks kind of blef. Like okay I had some issues with Rogue Galaxy's combat, but there was a fair bit going on it that, so ultimately I did like it.

In this it's like... You can block, strafe, and stab. And it looks slow. Woo?

^To be fair, I didn't expect them to put much effort in the combat, and it looks a lot more fun than I figured it would be. I don't think they want the combat to be the main appeal of the game since it's supposed to be more of an "Fantasy Life Sim" than a straight RPG. I'm actually intrigued be that, if only because my main problem with other Life-ish games was that it's always a relatively mundane setting. Even Animal Crossing is just a regular world, but with furry animal people...

Also I'm one of the very very few people who played the salesmen minigame in 4 Heroes of Light and was like, "screw saving the world or whatever, this is what I'd rather spend the whole game doing!"

From what I saw though, it looks like the only way to really get any of the good options is to go off fighting enemies for Bounties and carting them back for the actually useful materials (the videos were pretty focused on the start up and early game, whereas stuff like that Magic Powder that came from that one Bounty seems like what mid game stuffs and beyond will require). Kinda a lot like what DQ IX pulled with its late to post game grind later on in the game.

Hm, yeah, you're probably right about that. I was kind of hoping you could buy or farm most everything, kinda like how in RF4 you had to go to the dungeons, but you never really had to fight too much if you didn't want to (and didn't want to progress the story).

Actually...I never did play RF4...guess I have one less reason to care about this game...
