I'm not feeling this game at all. And I missed the train with Xenoblade since I never ended up owning a Wii, so right now I'm seeing an RPG with gorgeous landscapes that doesn't do anything for me.
I'll probably get a Wii U for Bayo 2 and if that happens I'll see if I get this or not when is released after seeing reviews and some impressions.
There are two important things that you should know. First, there will be giant robots to ride around and fight in. And second, is that you missed out on one of the best JRPGs in recent memory (like Dragon Quest VIII was where the bar previously set; and XBC blew it away easily).
But the tl;dr of XBC1 was that yeah, you got really fucking gorgeous landscapes and worlds (with excellent BGMs) to frolic around in, and I mean frolic (pretty much half of my experience with XBC1 was spent thinking to myself how most RPGs would kill to have even one of these vistas as their game's environmental centerpiece, and even in the case of a game actually sporting something like that, it'd either be cutscene or background fodder or at the very best case, you got this neat little trail to get the guided tour of all the highlights; though with XBC1, the general rule of thumb was that if you could see it, you could go there (unless it made literally no fucking sense as to why anyone would go there; and in certain cases, you could still go there)).
But yeah, what's been shown thus far has mostly been the game's starting area. Maybe a mix of the Colony 9 region/Bionis's Leg areas from XBC1 at most (two regions in a game that had roughly two dozen). We've seen little more than a flyover of the first population center (there were five in XBC1, not counting side areas or other former habitats). Not to mention what wasn't shown during this year's E3 like the giant robots, any of the NPCs or sidequests, and probably the other half of the game's mechanics like the Records/Achievements, the possible return of the Gem mechanic, Party/NPC Affinity, and so much more.
