Kind of a mixed bag but the new album is not bad.
Personally I think that
'Fragments of Time'
is the nicest song I've heard in a long time.

I love the album, and I appreciate it for being different. Can't stand it when artists are content to stagnate. Some of the tracks are as memorable as others, but overall I'm very happy.

You know, I don't really think it's all that different. It's different from their really big hits, bit if you look at stuff from Discovery like Voyager, Veridis Quo, Something About Us, and Face to Face, it's definitely not TOO much of a departure. Which is why I don't exactly get the complaints about it being too different.
(Or more specifically the complaint I heard someone make that Daft Punk went from making hard, epic techno to elevator music. I don't really agree with either part of that sentiment).

When I said different I meant different in the context of Daft Punk or of one particular artist, that is. As in they don't continue to ape their own style until it falls out of favor.

I appreciate the progressive rock vibe apparent throughout the album. In and of itself it makes the album a little different from everything they've done. I agree with you as well, your comment brings to mind "Three Doors Down" and the way the music/style, while not bad, is mostly unchanged from album to album.

HEY I KNOW YOU.
And yes, I agree. My tastes have changed a lot over the years, and I've really started to shy away from wanting "more of the same thing," no matter how good what it used to be was. Predictability is borrrrring.

I absolutely agree, comments like "their old stuff was so much better" have evolved into "I love how different this album is".
... And no you don't, not yet.

Ffff they produced half the tracks on the new Kanye West album too. And it's like completely the OPPOSITE direction of Random Access Memories -- closer to Burial and The Knife. The song Contact is a good indication of what it sounds like -- but dear lord it works /damn/ well.

I haven't had time to get the album, but "Get Lucky" is all over the radio, and it's very catchy. Plain, but smooth and hard to get sick of.
I have to say, just to add to it and even though the film was THAT well received, I loved the hell out of the Tron OST.
EDIT:
Dammit Swanson!

I love the hell out of the Tron OST, which was my first real exposure to Daft Punk. Oh, I'm sure I heard some of their music on the radio a long time ago, but never knew who they were or anything. Anyway, I figure I would look up their other albums, and discovered that none of it really sounds at all like the Tron music. Not bad, just not what I was looking for. That Get Lucky song sounds like something from the 70s. Weird.
