To be fair life-support might not be too far from the truth. I love the Vita and all but when you have publishers of said reliable Japanese games saying 'Sorry, not bringing games over for a sinking ship.'...

Because Namco Bandai had such a reliable track record of bringing over portable Tales games before the Vita...

Oh, wait.

I wouldn't be surprised if the logic was somewhat faulty anyway: more units WOULD get more sales, yes, but if anyone's on Vita semi-reliably it's the JRPG audience. Not quite like evaluating whether to bring a serious western IP there without SCEA co-funding or a 3DS version.

Mind, I also wouldn't be surprised if another factor was the remakes not being received too well, and it's possible Namco's current localization setup was kind of fucked, most RPGs don't take as long to get localized as Tales games do. Then again neither are they stuffed with Voiced skits like theirs.

It didn't have a very strong start, and a lot of publishers assumed that it was in the same boat as the PSP, which bothers me since a strong launch line-up is really not the norm any more.

Like they ever were? The only real outliers in terms of launch line-ups were the SuperNES and maybe the PS2 and Gamecube (and the N64 if you're willing to overlook the fact that said lineup only consisted of 2 games).
In my vision, I see that one of us is going to KO the other.

My point still stands. Western developers and publishers were way too fast to write it off.

They go where the audience is, which sadly isn't the Vita.

It's a vicious cycle to be sure, but it's a difficult market to get any traction in in light of Nintendo's continued dominance.

I think these handhelds will have a longer lifespan than normal, and I think Vita will slowly pick up Steam. If anything, Sony's smart attempts to court the indie audience will fill out the library, and as the numbers pick up, we'll see more released for them.
Friends, waffles, work. Or waffles, friends, work. Doesn't matter, but work is third.

I think the Vita will become the "second" PSP (in regards to its legacy).
