Shouldn't this be in the TV & Movies section?
I love movies, but gave up on watching the Oscars several years ago. It's just a big Hollywood stroke fest.
I imagine some people are just tuning in to see how Seth does. I'll admit that I'm curious. Just not enough to sacrifice 3(4?) hours for it. Walking Dead was on!

It's good to have on while I do shit around the house and make dinner.
I had no idea Ray Bradbury died last year.

Congratulations to all those nominated
I'm disappointed that Cloud Atlas got nothing, though.

I liked Argo enough, but I'm surprised it snagged best picture. I'm even more surprised Zero Dark Thirty lost at an American event.
Silver Linings Playbook cleaned up nicely, and I'm glad it did, it was a pleasant surprise.
Good for Django too, Christoph and Taratino should stay friends.
Cloud Atlas deserved recognition... dang that was sad.

I'm less surprised that Zero Dark Thirty lost so much as Armour cleaned up as much as it did. Not many foreign films get nominated best picture of the year.
But seriously though, 2012 was an amazing year for movies. In a normal year, there would only be one or two movies of similar caliber to any one of the nominations this year. Still can't believe that Argo won it though.
Also, I was 50/50 on where to place this since Oscar talk is pretty General Discussion category but Anime, TV, and Movies doesn't get too many new topics either. Either way, mods have the final say on the matter.

Argo was totally deserving of Best Picture. Fantastic movie. Was surprised that Life of Pi pretty much swept the technical awards and even nabbed best director over Spielberg for Lincoln (although Affleck should have won and he wasn't even in the category so whatever lol).

Haha we have Handsome Jack from Borderlands 2 from my city. It's one of those nuanced things that don't better but make you happy and work as great trivia.

Usually the categories I'm more a fan of are Best Original Screenplay and Best Animated Feature. Both were pretty much what I expected.

As far as visuals go, The Hobbit had quite a few scenes for me where I was asking myself "Is that effect finished?" and the 48 FPS + 3D thing just didn't work with a fast-moving movie like that. Life of Pi had a slow pace so you had more time to appreciate the scenes, effects, and cinematography, IMO.

Didn't Life of Pi win best Cinematography? That's an odd one. Especially considering all the best shots were CG.
Was the tiger CG? If it was, it was DAMN well done. I watched that movie assuming the whole time thinking that it was a real tiger.
As far as the Hobbit goes, the merit of the award consideration should be based on the standard movie without 3D, and without 48FPS. I saw it without these and thought it looked great. Not perfect, but still great.

Life of Pi did indeed win Best Cinematography, and the tiger was all CG :P I do agree with you on The Hobbit. 2D, without 48 FPS is how everyone other nominee was shown, so it's only fair that The Hobbit is given the same treatment. I hate 3D anyway lol.

Nevermind the Tiger, Life of Pi was as CG heavy as Star Wars Episodes 2 and 3 except with better everything else.
